Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license according to North Carolina requirements.
  • Must complete safety training according to Occupational Safety and Health Administration standards within twelve months of employment.
  • Must have working knowledge of life safety, sprinkler, fire alarm, master antenna television, intercom systems, communications equipment, fixtures, Microsoft Office including Word and Excel, Google Apps, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration standards.
  • Must be able to perform arithmetic calculations and troubleshoot, maintain, and repair life safety, sprinkler, fire alarm, master antenna television, and intercom systems.
  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team, complete tasks without clear direction, communicate clearly in oral and written form, and maintain effective working relationships with staff, contractors, vendors, and external agencies.
  • Must be able to perform heavy physical work requiring exertion of up to 50 pounds of force, operate automotive equipment, and work in indoor and outdoor environments with exposure to hazardous materials, gases, chemicals, moving parts, and inclement weather.
Responsibilities
  • Performs entry-level and craftsman-level work associated with the installation, inspection, and maintenance of communications equipment, including fire alarms, life safety systems, sprinkler systems, master antenna television, intercoms, communications equipment, and fixtures.
  • Responds to assigned work orders relating to life safety, sprinkler, fire alarm, master antenna television, and intercom systems.
  • Troubleshoots systems, determines corrective measures, and performs work to provide solutions.
  • Assists in replacing faulty or defective life safety, sprinkler, fire alarm, master antenna television, and intercom systems.
  • Performs inspections, testing, and certification of life safety, sprinkler, fire alarm, master antenna television, and intercom systems.
  • Prepares and maintains records, work logs, and reports as needed.
  • Adheres to the school system’s safety procedures, policies, laws, regulations, and requirements.
  • Maintains compliance with safety procedures and occupational health practices and maintains a safe work environment.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
