Requirements
  • Education: Associate degree and/or equivalent experience in clinical testing environment; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Licensure, Certification, Registration: ARDMS/RDCS accreditation or accreditation eligible and current basic life support (BLS) certification required.
  • Skills, Knowledge & Abilities: Strong organizational and both written and verbal communication skills; in-depth knowledge of cardiac anatomy and the ability to apply that knowledge to gather relevant information for diagnostic evaluation; in the absence of any of these skills, demonstrates the ability to be thoroughly trained to meet organizational standards.
Responsibilities
  • Performs echocardiogram diagnostic test from Provider order via electronic medical record and reports test information with appropriate EMR documentation according to department policy and procedures; clarifies physician orders and goals of prescription.
  • Types of echocardiogram diagnostic tests: diagnostic M-mode, two-dimensional, spectral Doppler, color Doppler, and exercise/pharmacological stress echocardiograms.
  • Ability to place and remove peripheral intravenous line to administer contrast agent or agitated saline when criteria for imaging use are met via echocardiogram protocol.
  • Respond to STAT echocardiography calls and Code Blues as required.
  • Identifies abnormal/critical echocardiogram findings during testing and ensures notification to physician as appropriately needed.
  • Troubleshoots technical methods of echocardiography as necessary.
  • Checks echocardiogram equipment to ensure that it’s functioning correctly before patient use.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the echocardiogram machines and echocardiogram electronic management system; able to access database to retrieve and send data utilizing the clinical and financial information systems; able to troubleshoot basic technical echocardiogram machine issues; performs all echocardiogram machine functions with confidence.
  • Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of testing rooms; ensures that it is stocked with supplies.

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Minimum of four years of experience in echocardiography preferred.
