Requirements

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate all workers’ compensation claims handling activities among Risk Management, Human Resources, Occupational Health Services, Environmental Health and Safety, the University’s third-party claims administrator, and outside defense counsel.
  • Monitor third-party administrator activities daily to ensure proper medical payments, appropriate claim acceptance or denial, reporting to excess carriers, receipt of excess carrier reimbursements, and third-party subrogation.
  • Review settlement requests from defense counsel and the workers’ compensation third-party administrator with the Director, and prepare formal settlement requests for the Director’s review and approval.
  • Coordinate workers’ compensation claims review meetings with the third-party administrator, outside defense counsel, and campus partners.
  • Support the Director in managing assigned claims by conferring with claimants or department personnel, obtaining damage estimates, processing payments and reimbursements, notifying claimants about the status of claims, and preparing and obtaining releases.
  • Assist in securing Department of Public Safety reports and performing follow-up activities.
  • Maintain complete and accurate paper or electronic files for assigned claims.
  • Process payments for the University’s workers’ compensation self-insurance program and assigned claims, maintain associated general ledger accounts, track payments by policy year, and regularly reconcile related accounts.
  • Track claim types and departmental metrics, and prepare reports, including internal loss runs and trend reports, to analyze claims trends and experience.
  • Use internal and third-party artificial intelligence capabilities to identify claim trends and emerging risk patterns that support claims management and loss prevention.
  • Research and identify new artificial intelligence tools and alternatives to improve claims analysis capabilities.
  • Process required filing fees and vendor payments for the workers’ compensation self-insurance program and maintain required reports and files.
  • Assist the Director with annual renewal documentation for excess workers’ compensation and all-other-states workers’ compensation coverages.
Desired Qualifications
  • Work experience in a university or college setting.
  • Familiarity with university financial systems (Prime and Jaegger), PeopleSoft, and eHealth.
  • Experience with the Origami Risk platform.
  • Experience serving as a liaison with third-party administrators and intermediate knowledge of New Jersey workers’ compensation laws.
  • Basic knowledge of standard insurance policies and terms.
