About the Company

Essential Utilities

Water, wastewater, and natural gas utilities

Essential Utilities is a holding company that provides regulated water, wastewater, and natural gas utility services, mainly in Pennsylvania and Ohio, through its Aqua (water/wastewater) and Peoples (natural gas) brands. Its products work by operating regulated utility networks that treat, distribute, and monitor water and wastewater services, and deliver natural gas to customers under established rate frameworks. Compared with some peers, Essential Utilities combines two types of essential services (water/wastewater and gas) across multiple states and has a long operating history dating back to 1886, including a recent rebrand after acquiring Peoples Natural Gas and an announced merger with American Water Works. Its goal is to deliver reliable utility service, maintain and expand its infrastructure within a regulated framework, and grow its scale in the regulated utilities sector.
