About the job

Requirements
  • At least 3 years of industry experience.
  • A strong first-principles understanding of engineering, physics, and signal processing.
  • Experience writing production-level code, with Python preferred.
  • A degree in Computer Science or a similar engineering discipline.
  • Experience shipping products that deliver value in the real world, ideally involving messy real-world sensors.
  • High integrity and strong professional judgment.
Responsibilities
  • Lead the design and development of imaging algorithms that leverage in-house ultrasound transducers and high-performance compute to image the brain and skull.
  • Drive the development of high-resolution acoustic simulation systems to model the propagation and scattering of ultrasound energy and accurately predict delivered dose.
  • Architect computer vision and real-time inference systems that track brain motion and dynamically adapt targeting parameters during treatment.
  • Partner with mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, ultrasound engineers, transducer designers, and neuroscientists to translate research concepts into robust production systems.
  • Define technical strategy and best practices across machine learning, modeling, simulation, and signal processing infrastructure.
  • Mentor and elevate other engineers through technical leadership, code review, and systems-level thinking.
  • Help shape the long-term machine learning roadmap as machine learning is applied in a domain where it has not traditionally been used.
Desired Qualifications
  • Prior experience with ultrasound or neuroscience is not required.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • July 2025 funding gave Nudge capital for trials and device iteration.
  • Current studies are enrolling for essential tremor, chronic pain, tinnitus, and healthy volunteers.
  • Patient applications are planned soon, expanding from research toward clinical revenue.

What critics are saying

  • Nudge still runs feasibility studies, not treatment studies, for chronic pain and SUD.
  • Regulators can halt ultrasound brain claims before commercialization in 2026.
  • If safety or efficacy fails, Nudge becomes an expensive research platform, not a product.

What makes Nudge unique

  • Focused ultrasound lets Nudge stimulate and image brain tissue without surgery.
  • July 2025 Series A from Thrive Capital and Greenoaks validates the platform.
  • Nudge Zero reached human-ready testing within months, showing rare execution speed.
