Qwello runs a pan-European public EV charging network focused on urban areas in countries like Germany, the UK, France, and the Netherlands. Users locate, reserve, and pay for pay-per-use charging through a proprietary mobile app, with ad-hoc credit card payments supported at the charger where available. The system emphasizes AFIR-compliant hardware and payment flows, offering a subscription-free experience powered entirely by the app. The goal is to build a wide, reliable urban charging network across Europe that makes it easy for drivers to find, reserve, and pay for charging on demand, funded to accelerate expansion.

What believers are saying

  • EIB signed €40 million venture debt on 5 January 2026 across seven countries.
  • Qwello closed €65 million debt financing with ABN AMRO and Investec in 2024.
  • Banque des Territoires backed Qwello France’s Rennes rollout with €537,000 in 2026.

What critics are saying

  • Munich’s 2017 dispute still delays permits; first sites slipped into late 2026.
  • City procurement battles can freeze deployments, starving revenue and partner confidence.
  • If municipalities keep choosing incumbents like Stadtwerke München, Qwello’s growth stalls.

  • Qwello won Copenhagen contracts in 2025 for 140 urban AC chargers.
  • Its Munich court fight defends street-rights access, not just procurement.
  • Qwello’s CP22 targets dense cities with dual-vehicle charging and small footprints.
