About the job
- At least 8 years of industry experience.
- At least 5 years in a people-management or team-lead role, with a track record of leading engineering teams through full delivery cycles.
- At least 3 years of production backend development in TypeScript and Node.js, including server-side APIs, services, background processing, and data flows; frontend or frontend-leaning full-stack experience does not substitute.
- Proven experience designing and leading AWS solutions at scale for distributed microservices architectures, including the ability to explain an end-to-end architected system and defend its trade-offs.
- Deep hands-on knowledge of core AWS services, including ECS or EKS, Lambda, RDS, DynamoDB, SQS, SNS, EventBridge, API Gateway, VPC networking, and IAM.
- Experience with containerization and orchestration using Docker, Kubernetes, or ECS.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, CDK, or CloudFormation, and CI/CD pipeline ownership.
- Strong grounding in agile methodologies and judgment about when to adapt them.
- Experience owning production systems, including monitoring, alerting, on-call, and post-incident reviews.
- Excellent written and spoken English.
- Lead, mentor, and grow a team of backend and infrastructure engineers, including conducting one-on-ones, setting goals, completing performance reviews, and supporting career development.
- Own the architecture of the AWS environment and microservices platform, from design through rollout.
- Break down large initiatives into workstreams, delegate ownership, and hold the team to delivery commitments without micromanaging.
- Run agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, retrospectives, and backlog grooming, and work with product and other engineering leads on roadmap and prioritization.
- Set and enforce engineering standards for code review culture, testing, observability, incident response, and on-call rotation.
- Drive cost, performance, and reliability improvements across the platform.
- Participate in hiring through interviewing, calibration, and onboarding.
- Experience with Kafka or event-driven architecture at scale.
- Experience with multi-region or multi-account AWS setups.
- Experience with database performance tuning at scale, including PostgreSQL or DynamoDB.
- Exposure to security and compliance frameworks such as SOC 2 or ISO 27001.
