Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing or a vocational school of practical nursing.
  • One to two years of experience is preferred.
  • Must have good communication, comprehension, and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand English.
  • Must have working knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Office Suite, and the Internet.
  • Must have good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must hold a current nurse license.
  • Must complete annual education requirements, including Compliance, Privacy, Security, and HIPAA training.
  • Must follow applicable company, facility, federal, state, and local policies, procedures, regulations, and laws.
  • Must use protective equipment and follow infection-control standards, universal precautions, and life-safety measures.
Responsibilities
  • Supervise, provide, and direct nursing care in compliance with facility policies and procedures.
  • Make advanced-level observations, report and record observations appropriately, form nursing judgments, and carry out nursing actions based on scientific principles.
  • Follow established nursing-practice standards and ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Interpret existing policies for staff, families, and physicians.
  • Perform daily rounds and develop and implement accurate, comprehensive care plans based on each resident’s needs.
  • Pass medications and treatments according to established policies and procedures; order and credit medications as needed; and maintain accurate accounting of stock medications, unit-dose medications, and narcotics.
  • Follow staffing guidelines, make nursing assignments, and give and receive accurate reports on residents’ conditions to ensure continuity of care.
  • Monitor diets, supervise meal trays and snacks, and assist with passing trays, feeding residents, and passing snacks.
  • Follow facility admission procedures and communicate admissions to other departments, staff, physicians, and service providers.
  • Ensure employees follow the chain of command consistently with personnel policies.
  • Assign nursing assistants and ensure efficient completion of their assignments.
  • Supervise, document, and correct poor performance by nursing assistants and inform Unit Managers or the Director of Nursing of performance problems.
  • Participate in nursing-assistant performance evaluations and provide counseling, coaching, and training.
  • Provide professional communication and customer service to residents, peers, families, managers, and visitors.
  • Report changes in residents’ physical or mental conditions promptly.
  • Attend staff meetings, in-services, interdisciplinary-team meetings, and committee meetings as assigned.
  • Observe noise, odors, cleanliness, and other environmental conditions and cooperate with staff to maintain quality conditions.
  • Document resident information, changes, and notifications to powers of attorney and physicians accurately, timely, and confidentially.
  • Perform comprehensive assessments as assigned.
  • Verify that changeover medication administration records and treatment administration records are updated correctly and that required changes are made to new records by the first of each month.
  • Know resident rights and help residents exercise and protect those rights.
  • Report resident complaints to the supervisor in charge and maintain confidentiality.
  • Ensure resident safety, including securing and checking Wanderguard devices as ordered.
  • Demonstrate proper equipment use and report equipment needs or repairs.
  • Provide care respectfully and protect the dignity of residents, clients, families, and staff.
  • Report complaints and allegations of abuse, misappropriation of funds or resident property, and other compliance concerns.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
