About the Job

Requirements

  • Six to eight years of experience building and operating production backend systems, including time as the technical lead of a team or workstream.
  • A trading background at a trading company, exchange, or brokerage, with experience building systems on a live trade, order, or risk path.
  • Technical depth to lead, review, and guide work across the full scope of the owned systems.
  • Strong system design skills, including decomposing complex problems into implementable, well-structured pieces with clear contracts.
  • Solid command of object-oriented programming principles and low-level design patterns.
  • Production engineering experience with observability, debugging complex systems, performance tuning, and incident response on systems that run 24/7.
  • Ability to drive technical decisions to resolution without formal authority and to lead through influence rather than escalation.
  • Ability to turn vague mandates into scoped, sequenced deliverables amid abstract and ambiguous problems.
  • Hands-on approach, including writing code and proactively identifying and solving important problems.
  • Heavy use of AI coding tools with effective technique to materially increase output.
  • Data-driven approach and clear written communication for an asynchronous, globally distributed environment where RFCs, design documents, and written updates carry significant weight.

Responsibilities

  • Own technical direction for the Hedging team's exposure and position keeping, hedge decisioning, venue routing, market making, and cost, PnL, and net revenue calculation.
  • Lead design discussions and drive technical decisions to resolution, breaking large, ambiguous efforts into executable workstreams.
  • Act as the senior engineer on the team, mentoring and guiding engineers across levels through design collaboration, pairing, and feedback, and helping resolve the team's hardest problems.
  • Review team work for correctness and technical coherence with the pod's direction.
  • Own the quality bar for delivered work, ensuring it is tested, observable, reconcilable, and operationally safe.
  • Keep engineering excellence and technical debt visible and shrinking, with a resolution plan agreed with the Engineering Manager.
  • Take end-to-end accountability for technical execution of the roadmap, surfacing risks and options to the Engineering Manager early.
  • Drive work to closure with Product, Operations, treasury, and finance by scoping problems, understanding impacts on exposure, risk, and net revenue, and ensuring adoption as well as delivery.
  • Own the production risk path, lead incident response, and turn post-mortems into durable systemic fixes.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with hedging, exposure, or risk management systems.
  • Experience with multi-venue execution, smart order routing, or market making.
  • Experience with PnL, cost-basis, or position-keeping logic, and reconciliation against external venues.
  • Experience with FX, multi-currency systems, or cross-border payments.
  • Experience pairing with an Engineering Manager on delivery and mentoring engineers to the next level.
