What believers are saying

  • Q2 2026 revenue hit $11.5 billion, up 50%, with data center up 107%.
  • AMD guided Q3 2026 revenue to $13 billion, signaling continued AI demand.
  • Lisa Su raised 2030 TAM to $2-3 trillion and expects data center revenue to double.

What critics are saying

  • NVIDIA still owns roughly 80%-90% of AI GPU share, crushing AMD pricing power.
  • AMD's supply chain remains tight in wafers, HBM, packaging, and substrates into 2027.
  • OpenAI, Meta, or Anthropic switching to Nvidia would gut AMD's MI450 ramp and Helios.

What makes AMD unique

  • AMD’s 2026 Helios deals with OpenAI, Meta, and Anthropic lock multi-gigawatt AI capacity.
  • EPYC and Instinct span CPUs, GPUs, and rack-scale systems across one vendor stack.
  • ROCm and custom engineering tie hardware, software, and systems into stickier deployments.

Meta's Muse AI agent drives Intel, Arm, and AMD stocks up 12-17%

Meta's new AI agent Muse has driven significant stock gains for major CPU manufacturers. After becoming the most downloaded free iPhone app in the US for three consecutive days, Muse sparked investor optimism about increased CPU demand. Arm Holdings rose 17%, Intel climbed 12%, and AMD gained 10% on Monday. The enthusiasm stems from expectations that AI agents, which rely heavily on CPU-based inference processing rather than GPU training, will drive substantial market growth. Muse performs tasks such as email sorting, booking reservations, and calendar management. Backed by Meta's 3.6 billion daily active users, analysts predict it could attract hundreds of millions of users within months. ARM projects the server CPU market will grow 35% annually to $120 billion by 2030, whilst AMD forecasts 50% annual growth reaching $220 billion by decade's end.

AMD crosses $1T market cap as AI chip demand drives 180% yearly surge

Advanced Micro Devices crossed $1 trillion in market capitalisation for the first time on Monday, with its stock hitting a record intraday high of $613.92. The chipmaker joins an exclusive club of semiconductor companies valued at or above $1 trillion, including Nvidia, Broadcom, and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company. AMD stock climbed as much as 10% on the day, capping a five-session rally that added approximately 24% to its value. The company's year-to-date gain exceeds 180%, though it remains well behind AI chip leader Nvidia's $5.4 trillion market cap. The rally spread across the sector, with Intel surging up to 12% and Arm Holdings jumping as much as 14%. Investor enthusiasm partly stems from strong reception to Meta Platforms' Muse AI Agent, which topped Apple's App Store free applications chart. Meta is AMD's second-biggest customer, accounting for about 5.5% of its revenue.

Jim Cramer tells investors to buy AMD stock after missing out himself

Jim Cramer offered unequivocal advice to investors asking about Advanced Micro Devices during the 11 September episode of Mad Money. When a caller questioned whether AMD was worth buying, Cramer responded: "Buy it, end of story." Cramer praised AMD as a "fantastic stock, fantastic company" and commended CEO Lisa Su. He expressed frustration over trading restrictions that prevented him from acting on AMD and Dell sooner, calling them "the two best stocks in this market". AMD's recent performance supports the bullish stance. Second-quarter revenue rose 50% year-over-year to $11.5 billion, whilst data centre revenue surged 107% to $6.7 billion. The company guided for third-quarter revenue of approximately $13 billion. AMD is expanding beyond chip manufacturing to become a systems company, executive Dan McNamara said at a Goldman Sachs conference.

AMD could compound EPS at 65% through 2030 on agentic AI demand, Piper says

Piper Sandler has initiated coverage on Advanced Micro Devices with an Overweight rating and a $600 price target. Analyst David O'Connor estimates revenue will grow at a 50% compound annual growth rate from fiscal year 2026 to 2030, with earnings per share compounding at 65%. The bullish outlook stems from increasing demand for server CPUs driven by Agentic AI workloads. AMD reported second-quarter revenue of $11.5 billion, beating estimates, with data centre revenue of $6.7 billion, up 107% year-over-year. The firm is expanding beyond semiconductors into rack-scale systems and software. It's ramping up GPU production with clients including OpenAI, Meta, and Anthropic. Hedge fund interest increased significantly, with 164 funds holding stakes in the second quarter, up from 134 previously.

Trump rejects AI slowdown calls, boosting Nvidia and AMD's frontier development prospects

President Donald Trump rejected calls to slow frontier AI development on 13 September, arguing the US must preserve its lead over China. The stance directly affects Nvidia and AMD, both of which sell computing systems whose demand could shift if AI labs deliberately stretch out model-development cycles. On 14 September, Nvidia fell 3% and AMD slid 4.4% after industry leaders pushed for a slowdown due to safety fears. Trump instead said "whoever wins AI, wins." Nvidia reported second-quarter Data Centre revenue of $89.0 billion, up 117% year over year. AMD's Data Centre revenue reached $6.7 billion, up 107%. Trump's position reduces the odds of a White House push for slower development and changes incentives facing labs considering self-imposed pacing.
