Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED is preferred.
  • Certification or registration through an NCCA-accredited organization is required, including AAMA, AMT, NCCT, or NHA certification.
  • BLS/CPR and AED certification is required within three months of the hire date.
  • The role requires the ability to organize and prioritize work to expedite patient care.
  • The role requires maintaining current knowledge of organization policies and procedures, practice/site protocols, and safety and infection-control procedures.
  • The role requires maintaining competency through ongoing professional development and department or organization requirements.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare patients for examinations and visits, obtain and document vital signs and reasons for visits, and prepare patient charts for providers.
  • Review and document medications, allergies, treatments, height, weight, problem lists, immunizations, screenings, and other patient history.
  • Instruct patients on sample collection and test preparation.
  • Assist providers with patient examinations, procedures, equipment preparation, and patient education.
  • Screen and document patient calls, determine urgency, consult providers, advise patients, and assist with return calls.
  • Perform patient triage and document charts, returned calls, missed appointments, and clinical issues.
  • Call in prescriptions according to provider orders and protocols.
  • Retrieve, file, and import patient records and test results, and notify patients of results as directed by providers.
  • Perform required quality-control checks for tests and equipment.
  • Preload pertinent patient history into the electronic medical record.
  • Perform instructed tests, including electrocardiograms, laboratory, vision, hearing, pulmonary function, and non-stress tests.
  • Administer allergy injections, medications, immunizations, and other measured injectables according to provider orders.
  • Apply and change dressings, remove sutures, and perform venipuncture according to provider orders.
  • Prepare, clean, and stock examination rooms.
  • Schedule patient appointments and assist with scheduling patient tests.
  • Prepare or perform pre-certifications and prior authorizations.
  • Order and maintain medical supplies and vaccine inventory.
  • Assist the front office and complete general filing, scanning, and importing.
  • Coordinate and complete referral, health, school/sports, immunization, work/school, childcare, and medication-administration paperwork and document completion.
  • Complete assigned training within defined timelines.
  • Provide support and coverage within the practice network as needed.
  • For specialty areas, perform appointment and procedure or surgery scheduling activities according to department requirements.
  • For occupational health, enter laboratory, X-ray, electrocardiogram, and other testing orders; follow up on ordered tests; and document point-of-care tests.
Desired Qualifications
  • At least two years of Medical Assistant experience is preferred.
