Requirements
  • At least 2 years of experience in patient care, behavioral health, crisis intervention, or caregiving; an associate degree in psychology, education, child development, or a healthcare-related field may substitute for up to two years of experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in a qualifying role such as Mental Health Technician, Psychology Technician, Psychiatric Technician, Behavioral Health Technician, Registered Behavioral Health Technician, Behavioral Health Specialist, Direct Support Personnel, Group Home Assistant or Paraprofessional, Correctional Officer, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic, Medical Assistant, Patient Care Technician, Home Health Aide, Patient Care Assistant, Certified Medical Assistant, Nursing Assistant, Crisis Intervention Specialist, Certified Nursing Assistant, or Corpsman.
  • Maintain current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certification.
  • Obtain and maintain current Handle with Care certification within 90 days of hire.
Responsibilities
  • Document observations on assigned patients in a legible, accurate, and appropriate format according to hospital and unit procedures.
  • Communicate appropriate information about patients’ conditions to the registered nurse and other healthcare team members.
  • Assist with nursing education groups.
  • Complete assigned morning and evening care, obtain vital signs, perform phlebotomy, supervise the patient-care milieu, assist nursing and other disciplines, and assist with admissions and discharges as assigned.
  • Demonstrate competency in unit-specific tasks and skills defined by the unit competency list.
  • Transport and deliver items, equipment, and permitted medications throughout the facility, excluding controlled substances and intravenous chemotherapy drugs.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance consistent with applicable policies and standards.
  • Maintain compliance with hospital policies and procedures.
  • Participate in nursing performance-improvement activities as assigned.
  • Demonstrate awareness of legal issues, patient rights, and regulatory and accrediting standards.
  • Use supplies efficiently.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized unit.
  • Receive and process incoming calls, patient calls, and guest requests.
  • Provide age-appropriate care by applying knowledge of growth and development across the lifespan, assessing patient-status data, interpreting patient needs, and following unit policies and procedures.
