About the company

Nokia makes the equipment and software that mobile carriers, cloud companies, and businesses use to run networks, from cell-tower radios to fiber links between AI data centers. From 1998 to 2011 it was the world's largest mobile phone maker; it sold that business to Microsoft in 2014, and HMD Global, a separate company, makes Nokia-branded phones under license. Its network unit sells optical systems that send data over fiber, internet routers, and broadband gear, and its mobile unit sells radios and the core software that runs 5G networks. Nokia earns money from equipment and service contracts and from licensing its patents to phone makers and carmakers. It was founded in 1865 as a wood pulp mill and is based in Espoo, Finland.

What believers are saying

  • AI builders are a growth engine: AI and cloud customers ordered €2.8 billion from Nokia in the June 2026 quarter.
  • Equity has gained value: Nokia's US shares rose 60% from January to October 2026, while Swedish rival Ericsson's fell 1%.
  • The US is Nokia's top hiring hub: 211 of its 622 open roles in October 2026, versus 19 in Finland.

What critics are saying

  • Cuts are widening: in July 2026, Nokia raised restructuring charges to €800 million from €250 million, targeting Europe and China.
  • Expect office time: only 5 of Nokia's 622 open roles in October 2026 were remote, and 248 were fully on-site.
  • AI is still a small slice: AI and cloud customers made up 9% of Nokia's June 2026 quarter sales.

What makes Nokia unique

  • Nvidia owns 2.9% of Nokia: the companies jointly develop mobile-network software that runs on Nvidia computing hardware.
  • It owns a historic US research lab: Bell Labs, birthplace of the transistor and Unix, lists 10 Nobel Prizes.
  • It manufactures optical chips itself: Nokia owns the San Jose semiconductor plant acquired with US networking firm Infinera.

Nokia bets on robots as next connectivity wave, but cuts cash flow outlook despite 35% profit jump

Nokia chief executive Justin Hotard says robots, vehicles, and other machines will be the next big users of networks. He made the case for "physical AI" on October 22, the day Nokia reported a 35% jump in comparable operating profit to €605 million. Sales to AI and cloud customers rose 123%, and the company booked €1.5 billion in new orders from them. Nokia also lowered its free cash flow conversion outlook to 35% to 55% of comparable operating profit, and raised expected restructuring charges to €1.1 billion from €800 million. Reported operating profit fell 22% to €196 million. Shares fell 5.7% in premarket trading to $8.72. Nokia keeps its 2026 comparable operating profit outlook at €2.1 billion to €2.6 billion.

Nokia Q3: AI and cloud sales jump 123% as $226M synergy target arrives a year early

Nokia said net sales grew 9% year over year in constant currency in the third quarter of 2026, driven by demand for artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure. It announced the results on October 22, 2026. Sales in AI and cloud rose 123% and made up 12% of group net sales. Operating margin widened by 220 basis points. Nokia raised its 2027 sales growth expectation for Optical Networks and IP Networks combined to 25%-30%. It expects to reach its €200 million synergy target from the Infinera acquisition by the end of this year, one year ahead of schedule. In live network tests, Nokia showed spectral efficiency gains of more than 20%. It is targeting a 100% improvement in 2028.

Nokia Q3 beats estimates as AI and cloud sales jump 123%, revenue up 10% to $5.8B

Nokia beat analyst estimates for the third quarter of 2026, as AI and cloud demand lifted sales. Net sales rose 10% to €5.15 billion ($5.93 billion), ahead of the $5.8 billion consensus. Comparable profit from continuing operations rose to €498 million ($573.1 million), or €0.09 per share, from €334 million a year earlier. Net profit was €156 million ($179.5 million), up from €80 million, though restructuring costs weighed on reported operating profit. AI and cloud net sales jumped 123% in constant currency, with order intake of €1.5 billion. IP Networks grew 43% and Optical Networks 18%. Free cash flow was negative €99 million. Nokia cut its free cash flow conversion outlook to 35-55% of comparable operating profit, from 55-75%, and kept its 2026 comparable operating profit outlook at €2.1-€2.6 billion.

Nokia expands collaboration with NVIDIA to integrate AI into telecom networks.

Nokia expands collaboration with NVIDIA to integrate AI into telecom networks. Nokia announces a new stage in its collaboration with NVIDIA, with new capabilities enabling AI to be integrated into radio signal processing, intelligence capabilities to be deployed closer to data sources, and the use of supervised AI agents to be expanded to the management of different network domains. Published on 10/21/2026 at 09:24 am EDT MarketScreener.com "Building on the industry's first commercial AI-RAN platform, announced in July, this technology is now integrated into operational networks and moving closer to large-scale deployment," the network equipment maker said. Together, Nokia and NVIDIA are developing the real-time network infrastructure needed for physical AI applications, while providing operators with a concrete solution to improve their existing 5G and 5G Advanced networks and prepare their evolution toward AI-native 6G. The companies are now applying AI to different stages of 5G signal processing, including radio channel estimation, beamforming, multi-user MIMO user pairing and transmission scheduling. Nokia's anyRAN software, designed natively for AI and running on the NVIDIA Aerial RAN Computer, provides a software-defined infrastructure for integrating AI-driven radio functions to improve network capacity and performance. The Finnish group and NVIDIA also said they are strengthening their collaboration in agentic AI to develop autonomous, reliable and sovereign networks capable of operating across multiple technology domains. NVIDIA AI Enterprise software, along with NVIDIA Nemotron models and libraries, is being integrated into Nokia's agentic platform, enabling operators to design, evaluate, deploy and operate AI agents specialized in telecommunications. Supermicro and Nokia bring NVIDIA AI-RAN computing to the network edge

Supermicro is working with Nokia to deploy AI radio access networks (AI-RAN), from distributed cell sites to centralised network hubs. The system pairs Nokia's RAN technology with the NVIDIA Aerial RAN Computer (ARC) platform and Supermicro's AI-optimised infrastructure. Placing accelerated compute closer to the access network lets operators run radio and AI workloads on shared infrastructure. It supports low-latency uses such as voice AI, vision AI, physical AI, and autonomous network operations, and offers a path to 6G. Supermicro's servers for NVIDIA ARC are available now. The ARC MGX 2U with dual Vera processor will follow later this year. The 2U ARC-Pro goes to customer testing later this year, with general availability in the first half of 2027.
