Requirements
  • An ABET-accredited Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with a mechanical focus is required.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience is required.
  • Professional Engineer registration in good standing is required.
  • Advanced experience performing engineering calculations and developing and implementing HVAC, mechanical utility, and piping system designs is required.
  • Advanced experience using and applying mechanical, plumbing, fire, and building codes is required.
Responsibilities
  • Interface with clients and external partners.
  • Coordinate with architects, engineers, designers, clients, construction managers, subcontractors, vendors, and manufacturers to ensure complete and constructible designs.
  • Work with the Project Manager on proposal development, task identification, man-hour planning, and project scheduling for the mechanical scope of work.
  • Conduct and lead field surveys of existing conditions and support field reporting.
  • Identify and resolve intermediate non-compliant existing conditions during site walks and construction field surveys.
  • Develop narratives, reports, construction drawing packages, and construction specifications for large, advanced-complexity projects without oversight.
  • Provide advanced support for construction activities, including RFI responses, submittal reviews, punch list development, and construction progress reports.
  • Conduct quality checks of documents, including technical verification of design calculations and documentation, and drive overall project quality.
  • Use Microsoft Office products and BIM software platforms to execute work.
  • Provide mentorship to less experienced Mechanical Engineers and Designers.
  • Lead advanced project system design programming and master planning with support from a Senior Engineer.
  • Lead a team of mechanical staff in executing advanced project discipline design and engineering.
  • Oversee the Mechanical discipline scope of work and manage the discipline budget across project phases, sizes, and complexity levels.
  • Direct design activities across studies, conceptual and schematic design, design development, construction documentation, and construction administration.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience in the Life Sciences, Pharmaceutical, Biotech, Laboratory, or Food and Beverage industries.
  • Advanced knowledge of GMP manufacturing environments.
  • Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite.
  • LEED, WELL, or another sustainable design accreditation, or experience with sustainable design.
  • Intermediate experience using and applying industry standards such as ASHRAE, SMACNA, ISPE, FDA, ISO, NFPA, and OSHA.
  • Advanced experience conducting and leading field surveys of existing conditions and supporting field reporting.
  • Advanced experience in plumbing design.
  • Basic experience using Revit plugins such as Enscape and Unifi.
  • Basic experience building parametric workflows using Dynamo, Grasshopper, and/or Rhino within Revit.
  • Proficiency coordinating advanced cross-discipline project teams.
  • Proficiency coordinating with construction trade partners, vendors, and manufacturers.
  • Intermediate experience troubleshooting mechanical systems.
  • Ability to develop internal mechanical design and engineering training presentations.
  • Ability to travel for client development, project execution, and internal and external training opportunities.
