About the job

Requirements
  • A degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, or Optical), Bio-engineering, Physics, or Biophysics is required.
  • A minimum of 20 years of progressive engineering experience and 12 or more years of leadership experience is typically required.
  • A proven history of key contributions to successful products from early stage through product launch and support of on-market products is required.
  • Advanced project management and phase-gate development understanding and capability are required.
  • Working knowledge of quantitative design and process tools, including (p)FMEA, tolerance analysis, design of experiments, statistical process control, GR&R, and Cpk is required.
  • Demonstrated experience developing requirements and specifications and architecting complex scientific systems is required.
  • Experience with scientific computing tools such as Python, R, or MATLAB is required.
  • The ability to perform the essential duties with or without reasonable accommodations is required.
  • The ability and willingness to travel up to 25% of working time, including overnight, weekend, and international travel, is required.
Responsibilities
  • Create and own system models, define technical budgets, and use these tools to guide system and subsystem architecture decisions and manage tradeoffs.
  • Develop and implement system- and subsystem-level interfaces, test strategies, and plans.
  • Drive understanding of complex systems integrating hardware, consumables, chemistry, complex assays, analysis, bioinformatics, and cell biology.
  • Use understanding of system fundamentals to improve performance and architect next-generation systems.
  • Own system-level verification and validation strategy, including protocol definition, execution oversight, and supporting documentation for phase-gate reviews.
  • Drive design transfer to manufacturing in partnership with Operations, suppliers, and contract manufacturers, moving systems from prototype through pilot builds to volume production, including process capability and yield improvement.
  • Partner with technical leaders and executive leadership to prioritize R&D initiatives and guide product roadmaps.
  • Hold make-versus-buy authority for subsystem development and select and manage external design houses and specialty suppliers.
  • Define statements of work, technical acceptance criteria, and milestone structures for third-party development; approve or reject deliverable acceptance.
  • Own the systems-side bill-of-materials cost target and drive the cost-reduction roadmap with Operations and Supply Chain through component consolidation, tolerance relaxation where the error budget allows, and design simplification.
  • Own the system requirements architecture from user needs through system, subsystem, and component requirements, maintaining traceability from each requirement to its verification evidence.
  • Own system-level risk management, including system FMEA, hazard analysis, and traceable links from identified risk through mitigation and verification to residual-risk acceptance.
  • Establish design-review cadence and standards and enforce them across hardware, consumables, assay, software, and analysis contributions to the system.
  • Define and publish systems engineering metrics for PDP stage-gate reviews, including requirement stability over time, verification coverage and first-pass rate, open system-level issues by severity, and specification margin at design freeze.
  • Set and own reliability targets, including MTBF, uptime, and mean time to repair, and the reliability growth plan, including accelerated life testing, HALT and HASS where warranted, duty-cycle definition, and wear-out characterization of consumable-contacting components.
  • Own the system-level failure-mode catalog and drive root-cause analysis and corrective action for field failures with Service and Quality, closing the loop back into design.
  • Own the system-level control strategy for maintaining performance in specification across instruments, consumable lots, and time, including calibration scheme, reference standards, drift monitoring, and acceptance criteria for instrument release and periodic requalification.
Desired Qualifications
  • A PhD is preferred.
  • Familiarity with optical, electrical, mechanical, and fluidics design and corresponding software is preferred.
  • Familiarity with molecular biology or cell biology is preferred.
  • Experience working under a formal design control or quality management system such as ISO 13485, IEC 62304, or FDA 21 CFR 820 is preferred.
  • Significant experience managing third-party development and contract manufacturers is preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with design software such as SolidWorks, Zemax, OnShape, or ePDM is a plus.

About the company

Cellanome provides an automated platform for live-cell phenotypic and functional assays that analyze single cells at scale. It runs high-throughput experiments that integrate with existing lab workflows, collecting multi-parameter data and allowing iterative testing under different conditions. The system emphasizes single-cell granularity, scalable data collection, and easy assay customization without major process changes. Its goal is to help life sciences, medical research, pharmaceutical, and biotech teams gain deeper cellular insights to accelerate discovery through a platform-as-a-service model.

What believers are saying

  • Cellanome updated its website August 2026, showing active product and content momentum.
  • AGBT March 2026 coverage and April 2026 posters show expanding scientific validation.
  • Psomagen added R3200 on March 26, 2026, expanding external distribution and credibility.

What critics are saying

  • The June 22, 2026 $75.9 million Form D signals continued capital dependence.
  • Psomagen's March 26, 2026 launch validates Cellanome while commoditizing its core workflow.
  • Any R3200 commercialization stumble kills a hardware-plus-consumables model before recurring revenue matures.

What makes Cellanome unique

Cellanome files to raise $75.9M for live-cell imaging and single-cell transcriptomics platform

Cellanome has filed a notice with the US Securities and Exchange Commission to raise up to $75.9 million in new funding. The filing was made under Regulation D of the Securities Act of 1933, which allows companies to sell securities without full registration. The company develops technologies that combine longitudinal live-cell imaging with single-cell transcriptomics from the same cells. This approach enables scientists to capture cellular dynamics over time and connect cellular behaviour with molecular state. Researchers can access Cellanome's technology by implementing its R3200 platform in their laboratories, using its assay services, or collaborating with the company's scientists on new applications.
