Requirements
  • Pharmacy licensure in the state of practice is required.
  • A degree in Pharmacy from an accredited College of Pharmacy is required.
  • Immunization certification and/or licensure, if required by the state, must be obtained in the state of practice within six months of hire.
  • Good organizational, problem-solving, and computer skills are required.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills are required for interfacing with staff, physicians, patients, and other contacts.
  • The ability to use reference tools to evaluate patient care and answer customer questions is required.
  • Knowledge of computer software, particularly medication management information system software and Microsoft applications, is required.
Responsibilities
  • Fill prescriptions accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Review, verify, or enter orders into the medication management information system and identify significant drug interactions, incompatibilities, therapeutic duplications, or patient-safety issues.
  • Administer immunizations upon patient request.
  • Supervise and direct the work of pharmacy technicians.
  • Coordinate pharmacy technician medication preparation and distribution and ensure accuracy before medications are dispensed.
  • Counsel patients, families, and caregivers regarding medications to support appropriate and effective drug use.
  • Provide accurate, appropriate, and timely information to physicians, nurses, patients, and others regarding medication therapy, drug-product guidelines, laws and regulations, medication formularies, and other medication-use topics.
  • Supervise day-to-day pharmacy operations, including inventory maintenance, interactions with insurance companies, and accurate and appropriate record keeping.
  • Consult with prescribing practitioners to support accurate and appropriate medication use.
  • Review medication orders and evaluate their appropriateness and completeness.
  • Contact prescribers with suggestions for improvement and resolve medication-order problems as needed.
  • Perform all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, and applicable professional standards.
  • Provide customers with an excellent service experience by consistently demonstrating the organization's core and leader behaviors.
