- A high school diploma or GED is required.
- Graduation from an accredited Surgical Technician Program is required.
- Certified Surgical Technician certification through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting, or an equivalent certification, is required.
- American Heart Association CPR certification is required.
- A minimum of two years of surgical technology experience is required.
- Experience in other medical fields, such as Licensed Practical Nursing or Emergency Medical Technicians, may be considered at management’s discretion.
- Demonstrated understanding, patience, and tact when interacting with physicians and co-workers are required.
- Strong attention to detail is required.
- Excellent hand-eye coordination is required.
- The candidate must be self-motivated and able to work efficiently and effectively.
- The candidate must be willing to collaborate with employees of varying skill levels, knowledge, and abilities.
- The candidate must be available to provide on-call coverage for liver transplant procedures.
- Assist the Operating Room team before, during, and after donor organ recovery, transplant surgeries, and hepatobiliary procedures.
- Under the direction of a physician, prepare organs for perfusion, monitor preservation parameters throughout the perfusion process, and communicate findings to the surgeon.
- Apply advanced sterile and aseptic techniques to support safe and effective surgical procedures.
- Use knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and operating room instrumentation to assist physicians during invasive, therapeutic, and diagnostic interventions.
- Maintain the Organ Preservation Laboratory by monitoring inventory levels, ordering supplies, rotating stock, and ensuring proper storage practices.
- Ensure that Organ Preservation Lab equipment is properly maintained, operational, and compliant with established standards.
- Collect and document data in accordance with United Network for Organ Sharing requirements and University Hospital policies and procedures.
- Support both Operating Room Technician and Organ Preservationist functions while collaborating with multidisciplinary clinical teams.
- Report operationally to Operating Room Nursing Management for clinical responsibilities and administratively to the Administrative Director of the Liver Center as a member of the transplant team.
- Contribute to patient care by supporting organ preservation, transplantation, and related surgical services.
- An Associate’s Degree in a science-related field is preferred.
- Experience with transplant procedures and organ preservation is preferred.
