Requirements
  • Must be at least eighteen years old.
  • Must have a certificate from a Home Health Aide training program consistent with State requirements and evidence of ongoing in-service education to maintain the certificate.
  • Must have the maturity necessary to establish and maintain a good work relationship with the client, the client's family, and agency personnel.
  • Must have a sincere interest in and a sympathetic attitude toward caring for sick and disabled people.
  • Must be dependable and trustworthy and comply with agency policies and procedures and State and agency in-service requirements.
  • Must be a good listener, exhibit empathy for sick, disabled, and elderly clients, and be sensitive to others' feelings.
  • Must maintain good personal hygiene and regular physical and dental exams, and wear an identification badge while working.
  • Must be able to lift, turn, and transfer clients; lift up to 50 pounds; stoop and bend; and have sufficient visual and hearing ability to comprehend written and verbal communication.
  • Must be able to communicate verbally so that the average person can understand.
  • Must be able to carry out a wide variety of tasks under the direction of the nursing supervisor.
Responsibilities
  • Follow the care plan completed by the Nursing Supervisor to provide assistance to the client.
  • Maintain a healthy, safe environment and provide nutritional and environmental support.
  • Assist the client with personal hygiene, toileting, dressing, walking, and feeding.
  • Position the client when instructed to do so.
  • Assist with treatments and therapy as ordered by the physician and approved by the nursing supervisor.
  • Remind the client to take medications.
  • Assist with bill payments only when authorized and documented on the assignment sheet.
  • Run errands when authorized.
  • Complete documentation on the Aide Charting Sheet daily.
  • Report important information or changes in the client's condition to the agency and/or nursing supervisor when necessary.
  • Use medical supplies and equipment when appropriate.
  • Provide emotional support, develop a trusting relationship with the client, and encourage client independence.
  • Provide direct care according to the established client plan of care.
