About the Job

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Ocean Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with maritime industry standards, including ABS and U.S. Coast Guard regulations.
  • Strong fundamentals in core engineering principles, including structural, mechanical, and electrical systems.
  • Experience working in a shipyard or onboard ships.
  • Strong knowledge of 2D and 3D computer-aided design software, such as Rhino, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or NX.
  • Deep familiarity with interpreting technical drawings, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, weld symbols, and fabrication tolerances.
  • Comfort working in an industrial shipyard environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design, development, analysis, and construction of autonomous surface vessels.
  • Collaborate with other engineers on computer-aided design modeling, structural, mechanical, and electrical design, and weight management for vessel optimization.
  • Liaise between engineering, drafting, and production to resolve challenges during design and construction.
  • Identify and resolve non-conformances, lead root cause analysis, and drive resolution through Issue Review Boards and rework plans.
  • Lead and coordinate Engineering Change Orders, ensuring traceability, communication, implementation, and verification.
  • Support integration of autonomous navigation and control systems into vessel designs.
  • Participate in design reviews and brainstorming sessions for new and existing vessel concepts.
  • Support documentation, technical writing, and preparation of reports for internal use, regulatory bodies, and client presentations.
  • Manage computer-aided design models to document changes made during ship construction.
  • Support sea trials and at-sea testing of autonomous surface vessels as needed.
  • Own problem-solving and disposition of production defects, and drive root cause problem-solving to improve yield and rework rates.
  • Read, interpret, and follow blueprints and sketches to understand project specifications.
  • Create production processes in unstructured areas of the operational system.
  • Support the shipyard’s transition from low-rate to high-volume production by identifying and implementing necessary changes in processes and infrastructure.
  • Assist in work prioritization and triage during peak production periods to maintain workflow efficiency.
  • Onboard new automated production assets, collaborating with software and manufacturing engineering to improve software products that support production processes.
  • Lead or support translating shipbuilding processes from anecdotal knowledge into a digital and scalable format.
  • Follow shipyard safety policies, including proper use of personal protective equipment, fire prevention, and confined-space protocols.
  • Assist in training and developing other production engineers.
  • Collaborate and communicate with welders, metal fitters, pipefitters, electricians, and other trades as required to complete vessel construction or repair and maintain efficient workflows.
  • Work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced ship production environment.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area.
  • Maintain a positive attitude toward customers and represent the company professionally.
  • Make a personal commitment and be accountable for health, safety, and environmental results, driving toward defined goals.

About the Company

Saronic

Develops autonomous surface vessels for military

Saronic Technologies develops autonomous surface vessels (ASVs) for naval and maritime missions. The vessels use onboard edge computing, adaptive path planning, and passive sensors to identify and track targets, with resilient multichannel communications enabling coordinated manned-unmanned operations in contested environments. The company emphasizes integration with existing military concepts of operations (CONOPs) and provides customization and integration services to fit mission needs. Its goal is to improve situational awareness, extend operational reach, and enhance survivability in maritime engagements.
