Requirements
  • A high school degree or equivalent is required.
  • One to three years of related work experience is required.
  • Experience with computer systems, including web-based applications and some Microsoft Office applications such as Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or Access, is required.
  • The ability to work successfully in a fast-paced, multitask environment with some independent decision-making is required.
  • The ability to process electronic information and data accurately and efficiently is required.
Responsibilities
  • Register patients presenting for visits, explain the registration process, and respond to patient questions.
  • Process patient copayments, coinsurance, deductibles, and balances due; safeguard cash, checks, and receipts; reconcile the cash drawer; and assist patients with kiosk check-in as needed.
  • Complete the Medicare Secondary Payer Questionnaire for each patient and adjust patient coverage based on the results.
  • Instruct patients and obtain signatures on consent forms, financial forms, and other documents required by the clinical department; distribute documents; and scan, process, and record receipt of collected documents.
  • Counsel patients regarding non-covered services and obtain signatures on Advance Beneficiary Notices, consents, and waivers.
  • Monitor the patient waiting area to maintain a smooth and efficient registration flow, advise patients of potential delays, and support a pleasant patient experience.
  • Respond to patient concerns and potential patient safety issues, recognize health conditions that may pose a risk to others, and follow established procedures to help contain risk.
  • Maintain a neat and orderly registration desk and patient waiting area while securing confidential patient information.
  • Initiate patient scheduling activities by prioritizing and accessing patient phone calls, digital messages, orders, and scheduled-order work queues.
  • Use online questionnaires, offline materials, and subgroup searches to schedule, reschedule, and cancel patient appointments.
  • Establish working relationships with staff in assigned clinical departments and correctly apply department-specific scheduling protocols.
  • Remain current on scheduling protocols and use judgment or seek management assistance when protocols do not meet patient needs.
  • Ensure all required patient scheduling and registration information is captured and verified, including referring physician information, insurance coverage, demographics, and contact information.
  • Communicate to Patient Access management issues that may affect the timeliness and accuracy of patient appointments and subsequent patient care.
  • Follow confidentiality, equipment security, and safeguarding guidelines when working in a remote setting; maintain productivity, quality, and accuracy levels; and communicate regularly with the supervisor and manager.
  • Efficiently register patients by capturing and verifying required information to identify and contact the patient and support proper reimbursement on initial claim submission.
  • Ascertain, create, and assign each patient’s guarantor, including personal or family relations, workers’ compensation insurance, third parties, behavioral health, or other required categories.
  • Identify records and verify patient insurance coverage using real-time eligibility, review each insurer’s response, and take appropriate action.
  • Apply the appropriate guarantor and insurance to each patient visit.
  • Communicate financial clearance status to patients, advise them of contract status, self-pay status, and payment responsibility, and schedule financial counseling as needed.
Desired Qualifications
  • An associate’s degree is preferred.
  • Call center or telephone customer service experience is preferred.
  • Strong typing skills of 40 or more words per minute are preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology is preferred.
  • Bilingual written and verbal communication skills are preferred.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record software is preferred.

Beth Israel Lahey Health rolls out Heidi's AI scribing to all physicians after 90% report better patient presence

Beth Israel Lahey Health is rolling out Heidi's ambient AI scribing tool to all its physicians following a successful trial across its facilities. The health system, which serves over 6,000 providers across 14 hospitals and 175 primary care practices, prioritises addressing physician burnout, with nearly half of US physicians reporting burnout. During a six-month trial offering Heidi to 1,000 providers, the majority adopted the technology. Survey results showed 89% were satisfied with note quality, 90% felt more present with patients, 74% reduced after-hours work time, and 82% experienced reduced cognitive load during visits. The implementation demonstrates how ambient AI can deliver immediate relief to physicians whilst benefiting patients and the healthcare system. Heidi supports over 2 million consultations weekly globally and has raised $96.6 million from investors including Point72 Private Investments and Blackbird.
