Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree and at least seven years of progressively responsible work experience in a safety-related field, ideally, construction or theater safety.
  • Proficient and confident in developing and conducting effective safety training programs and working knowledge of OSHA Safety Programs such as: Aerial Lifts, Construction Safety, Confined Space, Electrical Safety, Fall Protection, Hand and Power Tools, Hazard Communication, Lockout/Tagout, Machine Guarding, Powered Industrial Trucks, Machine Shop Safety, Ladder Safety, PPE, Proper Lifting/Back Safety, Respiratory Protection, Hearing Conservation and Bloodborne Pathogens.
  • Knowledge of and the ability to stay informed on federal, state, and local laws such as OSHA, NFPA, EPA, and ADA.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing, including effectively conveying information and ideas across the entire organization.
  • Ability to operate and problem-solve in a fast-paced, large organization.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and the ability to manage large data sets.
Responsibilities
  • Analyze near misses and accidents and conduct incident analysis to reduce future recurrences. Determine the root cause/contributing factors. Prepare, provide, and assist in presenting reports that identify trends and possible mitigation.
  • Conduct frequent and regular physical, documented inspections of work areas and operations, including shops, stage, engineering, and public spaces within the Met and other buildings owned and/or leased by the Met.
  • Perform safety inspections of onstage production sets and crew operations.
  • Assist the Safety Director in developing a comprehensive inspection database from which reports may be generated and trends identified.
  • Conduct regular safety training and manage all aspects of the Met’s training program.
  • Provide support in managing the Met’s worker’s compensation program.
  • Update and maintain safety-related records, including the Annual OSHA 300/301 logs and the Met’s internal incident form database.
  • Prepare materials for the monthly Safety Committee meetings and make presentations to the Committee, as appropriate.
  • Assist in managing the Met’s Hazardous Waste Program, Noise Assessment Program, and Occupational Safety Programs.
  • Assist the Safety Director and the Fire and Life Safety Director in developing, maintaining, and providing training on the Met’s emergency response plans.
Desired Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Health, and Environmental Science or Engineering.
  • Experience influencing Safety Culture Change.
  • Professional certifications such as CSP or CIH.
