Requirements
  • A master's degree in library and information science or an equivalent degree from an American Library Association-accredited institution.
  • At least 3 years of experience in cataloging.
  • Proven experience in transliteration.
  • Strong knowledge of cataloging standards, including Resource Description and Access, Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules 2, Library of Congress Subject Headings, Library of Congress Classification, Machine-Readable Cataloging 21, BIBCO, and NACO.
  • Familiarity with library management systems and tools including Integrated Library System cataloging systems, OCLC Connexion, Classification Web, Cataloger's Desktop, and the Library of Congress Authorities list.
  • Hands-on experience with metadata and taxonomies for catalog collections.
  • Ability to communicate, collaborate, and work effectively with others.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong analytical, detail-orientation, and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to move within the work location and lift, push, pull, hold, or carry items weighing up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 35 pounds.
  • Ability to sit for long periods and maintain focus on computer screens or detailed paperwork.
Responsibilities
  • Create original, enhanced minimum-level, and copy cataloging records for collections of foreign-language material in various subject areas.
  • Catalog titles in English by supplying required metadata in MARC21-compliant bibliographic records.
  • Classify serial and monograph materials.
  • Create and update records in an Integrated Library System cataloging system, ensuring accuracy and completeness in alignment with NACO standards.
  • Assist with recommendations regarding new subject headings and classification numbers.
  • Stay current with developments in cataloging standards and best practices.
Desired Qualifications
  • Familiarity with Voyager library management system.
