Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Ability to travel to outreach events and engage Veterans in the field is required.
  • Willingness to travel regularly across various locations, including homeless shelters and Veterans Affairs locations, up to 80% of the time, is required.
Responsibilities
  • Provide outreach through distributing materials, delivering informational and educational presentations, and marketing to community members and potential participants.
  • Address crowds of varying sizes and deliver program presentations.
  • Provide resource and referral services, particularly for U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs services and entitlements, public benefits, and housing resources.
  • Develop, assess, and monitor a strategic outreach plan and related resources with SSVF staff and other SSVF programs.
  • Interface with representatives from referring agencies and partnering service providers to facilitate program services and maintain a steady flow of referrals.
  • Assist participants with accessing community services, including housing, employment, medical, psychological, substance abuse, vocational, food, and clothing services, through referral-network development, referrals, and follow-up.
  • Maintain a small caseload of SSVF participants in accordance with SSVF standards.
  • Assist with developing Housing Stability Plans and conducting follow-up recertifications with participants.
  • Advocate for participants as appropriate and encourage and support self-advocacy.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with colleagues and program managers.
  • Document all services in compliance with agency standards.
  • Work as part of the social service team to develop on-site and off-site socialization, educational, risk-reduction, and skill-building activities supporting permanent housing stability.
  • Serve as liaison to community-based services and groups, including civic, social service, government, business, landlord, and nonprofit organizations.
  • Participate in individual supervision, team meetings, case conferences, division meetings, and trainings.
  • Participate in SUS Veterans Service Fairs and other events.
  • Complete other tasks assigned by the manager.
Desired Qualifications
  • Veteran status in the U.S. Armed Forces is a plus.
  • Lived expertise in homelessness or human services is a plus.
  • Ability to work outside normal business hours, including Veterans Day and occasional weekend hours, is a plus.
