Requirements
  • One to six years of progressive administrative and office management experience.
  • Ability to complete periodic weekend work hours.
  • Advanced knowledge of Historically Black Colleges and Universities office and administrative practices and principles.
  • Working knowledge of event planning.
  • Skill in operating computers and related software applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Raiser's Edge, GiveCampus, and Workday.
  • Knowledge of standard office equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with a diverse population.
  • Ability to be detail-oriented and organized.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and ensure a high level of confidentiality.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and harmonious work relations with faculty, staff, residents, students, event clients, and the public.
Responsibilities
  • Develop, execute, and evaluate engagement programs for undergraduate and graduate students that strengthen affinity and prepare students for lifelong alumni involvement.
  • Serve as the primary Alumni Relations liaison to major student organizations, including School/College councils, student ambassadors, and affinity groups.
  • Advise the Howard University Pre-Alumni Association and connect students with Alumni Clubs.
  • Coordinate senior-year experience initiatives, including senior traditions, countdown-to-graduation programming, recognition events, and philanthropic education.
  • Deliver presentations and workshops on alumni engagement, networking, professional development, and the value of alumni communities.
  • Design and manage outreach strategies to engage alumni within their first 10 to 15 years after graduation.
  • Develop signature programs, volunteer opportunities, and communications tailored to the needs of early-career alumni.
  • Partner with the Manager for Career and Professional Development to promote networking opportunities, mentorship programs, and alumni-to-student connections.
  • Plan and implement young alumni events, including regional gatherings and homecoming activities, and work alongside the Manager of Reunion Programs to engage young alumni in reunions.
  • Stay informed about best practices in higher education alumni engagement, with a focus on Gen Z and emerging young alumni trends.
  • Support department-wide events and initiatives as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
