Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Nursing degree is preferred; registered nurses hired with an Associate or Diploma degree in nursing must enroll in an accredited Bachelor of Science in Nursing program within two years and obtain the BSN within four years of hire or reclassification.
  • At least one year of work experience as a registered nurse is required.
  • Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state is required.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification or American Red Cross Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification is required.
  • The role requires the ability to perform the listed physical, sensory, environmental, and mental job functions, including lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds unassisted, maintaining corrected vision and hearing, dealing effectively with stressful situations, working rotating shifts and overtime, and qualifying physically for respirator use where applicable.
Responsibilities
  • Provide individualized, goal-directed patient care to families and patients at the competent level using the principles and practices of the nursing process.
  • Provide nursing care using assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Direct and lead assigned team members and collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to provide age- and developmentally appropriate care in accordance with nursing standards.
  • Provide patient- and family-centered care addressing physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural, religious, and environmental needs.
  • Perform nursing diagnoses, outcome identification, care planning, intervention implementation, care coordination, health teaching and promotion, and evaluation of goals and interventions consistent with MUSC policies.
  • Maintain a safe, therapeutic, and healing environment through patient privacy and responsive, respectful, accepting, and professional behavior.
  • Participate in the professional practice model, shared governance, peer review, professional development, leadership and clinical excellence initiatives, and adherence to standards of care.
  • Apply care-management principles to coordinate effective and efficient delivery of patient-care services.
  • Identify clinical priorities and initiate actions to improve patient outcomes.
  • Promote a healthy work environment and accept personal responsibility for professional growth.
