Requirements

  • Political campaign or organizing experience, preferably in the clean energy advocacy space.
  • An entrepreneurial approach, flexible attitude, and ability to operate independently while making decisions consistent with United’s mission and vision.
  • Ability to engage members, customers, and funders and communicate United’s value proposition to those audiences.
  • Ability to lead, motivate, and develop an internal team and collaborate across project teams with colleagues.
  • Excellent written and verbal interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Intellectual curiosity, an inquisitive nature, and strong listening and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage a project budget and financials.
  • A performance-oriented work ethic, demonstrated initiative, and commitment to achieving goals.
  • Must be willing to reside in the United States, with a strong preference for residence in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, or New York.
Responsibilities
  • Lead development of political and policy strategies to accelerate the transition to 100% clean energy and electrified transportation, and identify future venues for policy and political success in targeted states.
  • Manage a geographically dispersed advocacy team and lobbyists on the ground.
  • Collaborate across the policy team to develop and implement strategies addressing short- and long-term policy objectives in key states, including legislative, regulatory, and administrative engagement.
  • Work with members to develop consensus on policy positions in key states and issues, facilitate member calls, and lead policy discussions to consolidate member input and prioritize engagement.
  • Ensure high-quality member engagement opportunities through direct decision-maker engagement, including lobby days and candidate education, earned media, expert testimony, and participation in legislative, rulemaking, and administrative processes.
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with coalition partners, philanthropy, allies, and key legislative, regulatory, and administrative staff.
  • Represent United to funders and member prospects and help raise funds supporting strategies and engagement in key states.
  • Develop relationships with key regional players and decision makers, understand regional levers of power, and leverage the advanced energy industry to affect policy change.
  • Travel as needed, up to 30%, to targeted states for advocacy days, technical conferences, meetings with allies and stakeholders, staff development, and other efforts on behalf of United.
Desired Qualifications
  • Political Science, Public Policy, or Economics degree.
  • Political campaign or organizing experience in the clean energy advocacy space.
  • Residence in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, or New York.
