Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing with a specialized diploma is required.
  • Knowledge of patient- and family-centered practice, including conveying respect and collaborating with patients, families, and designated care partners in care and care planning.
  • Knowledge of cultural awareness and the ability to convey respect and connect effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of effective communication concepts, tools, and techniques, including accurately transmitting, receiving, and interpreting ideas, information, and needs through appropriate communication behaviors.
  • Ability to assess patient ailments and injuries and implement treatment plans.
  • Knowledge of child and adult education techniques and ability to identify learning priorities and educate patients and designated care partners about conditions, treatments, medications, and recovery steps.
  • Knowledge of medications used to treat patients and ability to administer medications and prescribe drugs for continuing treatment outside the hospital.
  • Knowledge of patients' post-discharge needs and ability to develop discharge plans and arrange follow-up care with patients and families or designated care partners.
  • Knowledge of tools and techniques for patient assessment and nursing diagnosis or clinical judgment, and ability to analyze symptoms and develop resolutions using available drugs, facilities, and techniques.
  • Knowledge of health information relevance and appropriate documentation methods, including recording medical histories, symptoms, vital signs, medications, diagnoses, treatment plans, procedures, tests, and medical results in written or electronic form.
  • Current Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification from the American Heart Association is required.
  • A Pennsylvania Registered Nurse license is required.
  • Completion of the Dysthymia Course from the American Association of Critical Care Nurses is required.
  • Intensive care unit and stepdown experience is required.
Responsibilities
  • Integrate evidence-based practice, clinical expertise, patient and family preferences, and cultural beliefs and values to deliver optimal healthcare.
  • Partner with patients and their families or designated care partners to identify learning needs and priorities and provide useful, understandable, and affirming education.
  • Follow established nursing practices and protocols to minimize risk of harm to patients and others.
  • Use information technology to communicate, manage knowledge, mitigate errors, and support ethical decision-making.
  • Use data to monitor care-process outcomes and apply improvement methods to design and test changes that improve patient-care quality and safety.
  • Function effectively within nursing and interprofessional teams by fostering open communication, mutual respect, and shared decision-making.
  • Provide safe, compassionate, and coordinated care based on patients' personal preferences, priorities, needs, and cultural beliefs and values.
  • Create an environment of belonging and inclusion and demonstrate problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Pursue continued professional growth and development and serve as a primary preceptor for appropriate staff members.
  • Participate in hospital- and practice-setting committees, including safety and quality-improvement committees.
  • Give and receive feedback and integrate appropriate changes into practice.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's Degree/BSN or completion of a BSN within three years of hire is strongly preferred.
  • Previous experience as a Registered Nurse in an acute care setting is strongly preferred.
