Requirements
  • Current vocational nurse licensure is required.
  • A Basic Life Support certificate is required.
  • Competence in medical terminology, clinical skills, medical equipment, infection control and prevention practices, protected health information procedures, dosage calculations, and applicable nursing practice standards is required.
  • The ability to communicate verbally and in writing in English is required.
  • The ability to respond to unusual or varied situations not covered by existing standards, procedures, and precedents is required.
  • The role requires the ability to stand, walk, sit, ascend and descend stairs, handle, finger or feel objects, reach with the hands and arms, lift 25 pounds from floor to waist level, and occasionally assist with moving adult patients.
  • The role requires close vision, the ability to clearly focus vision, and hearing sufficient to use a stethoscope for breath sounds and Korotkoff sounds.
Responsibilities
  • Provide direct and individualized nursing care to an assigned group of patients under the supervision of a registered professional nurse.
  • Conduct focused assessments following initial comprehensive assessments completed by the registered nurse.
  • Contribute to the planning and implementation of nursing care.
  • Participate in the development and modification of the ongoing nursing care plan.
  • Communicate among patients, families, ancillary personnel, and hospital departments involved in patient care.
  • Assist with health teaching for patients and families under the direction of a registered nurse.
  • Share responsibility for planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care plans and nursing care.
  • Prepare, administer, and record medications in accordance with medication-administration policies.
  • Participate in emergency situations.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with the registered nurse regarding patients’ status.
  • Document information concisely, accurately, and completely.
  • Identify and use appropriate communication channels.
  • Comply with state board of nursing practice standards.
  • Maintain required certifications and continuing education.
Desired Qualifications
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification is highly recommended.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification is highly recommended.
  • One year of clinical practice is preferred.
