Gucci owner Kering drops 11% as luxury braces for tough winter.

Gucci owner Kering drops 11% as luxury braces for tough winter. The long-promised luxury market recovery remains elusive as the widening Middle East war and China's tax crackdown on the wealthy added pressure on the world's biggest luxury groups in the third quarter. Shares in Gucci owner Kering dropped 11% on Friday after the group reported further sales declines, but said it would stick with CEO Luca de Meo's turnaround plan and accelerate store closures, aiming for 125 by year-end. The recovery long promised by luxury brands seems nowhere in sight, as the expansion of war in the Middle East along with China's tax crackdown on the wealthy piled further pressure on the world's biggest luxury conglomerates in the third quarter, and executives buckled in for a tough winter. Riots in Paris, leaving Louis Vuitton shop windows smashed and electric-bike bonfires near luxury shopping mecca Place Vendome, threw into sharp relief the political risk faced by luxury brands not just abroad but also at home. Shares in LVMH and Hermes were also down 1% to 1.5% on Friday, as crude prices hit their highest level since early May, worsening the squeeze on households that has curbed consumers' ability to splurge on handbags and clothes. Gucci's downturn has persisted despite de Meo's plan to make the brand's pricing more enticing to middle-class consumers and creative director Demna's new collections hitting stores. "The progress made on improving brand desirability remains in its very early stages," JPMorgan analyst Chiara Battistini said in a note. Orient Express appoints Amélie Thiriet as new CEO.

Orient Express appoints Amélie Thiriet as new CEO. Posted On October 22, 2026 CPP-LUXURY Accor and LVMH have named Amélie Thiriet CEO of Orient-Express. Until now Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Communication at LVMH Hotel Management, she joins a brand that is moving from project to operation, eighteen months after the opening of the portfolio's first hotel in Rome and two years after the strategic partnership signed between Accor and LVMH. Amélie Thiriet comes from LVMH's hotel holding company, where she oversaw the sales, marketing, and communication functions. This entity brings together the luxury group's own hotel activities, including Cheval Blanc and, since 2019, Belmond. Her profile is geared toward brand development and international sales in upscale hospitality. The new CEO succeeds Gilda Perez-Alvarado, who had led Orient Express since January 2024 alongside her role as head of strategy for the Accor group. Since the opening of Orient Express La Minerva in Rome or the launch of La Dolce Vita Orient Express train in April 2025, the brand's portfolio has been gradually moving from sales pitch to actual operations. On the agenda are the Orient Express Venezia hotel which opened in March 2026, the Orient Express Sailing Yachts with the Corinthian (named in April 2026) and the Olympian in preparation, and then the announced return of the historic Orient Express train in 2027. In June 2024, Accor and LVMH sealed a strategic partnership around Orient Express. LVMH took a stake in the brand, in the company that operates the future hotels and trains, and in the entity that owns the two sailing yachts. The arrival of an executive coming directly from LVMH Hotel Management at the head of an Accor brand reflects the operational rollout of this agreement.

Tiffany Les Journées Particulières 2026: The Landmark and the Jewelry Design and Innovation Workshop opened to the public.

LVMH's Les Journées Particulières arrived at The Landmark for an incredibly rare look inside its jewelry workshop. Tiffany Les Journées Particulières 2026: The Landmark and the Jewelry Design and Innovation Workshop opened to the public. Fashion & Jewelry Director / Editor-in-Chief of Haute Time Tiffany & Co. opened two of its most closely guarded New York addresses to the public from October 16 to 18, 2026, for Tiffany Les Journées Particulières - the LVMH group's behind-the-scenes weekend celebrating the craftsmanship of its Maisons. Visitors toured The Landmark, Tiffany's Fifth Avenue flagship, and the Tiffany Jewelry Design and Innovation Workshop, where the Maison's Master Artisans walked guests through the making of Bird on a Rock. Photo Credit: Evelyne Freja for Tiffany & Co. This year marked the sixth edition of Les Journées Particulières, which LVMH launched in 2011 and has since grown into a global open-house tradition. The 2026 program spanned 71 venues across 45 Maisons in 13 countries, including 26 first-time venues and seven nighttime venues. Four of those venues were in the United States, and The Landmark was among the sites opening its doors for the first time. "Les Journées Particulières will take place for the sixth time in 2026," wrote Antoine Arnault, Image & Environment, LVMH, in his introduction to the program. "Since the event was launched in 2011, we have stayed true to our ambition: open the doors of our Maisons and invite the public into these temples to their exceptional savoir-faire to meet the people who bring it to life." At the Jewelry Design and Innovation Workshop, LVMH billed the experience as "an immersive journey behind the creation of Bird on a Rock Fine Jewelry, from the initial design to the final stone setting, showcasing the Maison's craft and technical mastery." The workshop's exact address was shared only with guests upon booking - a rare invitation behind the scenes. Photo Credit: Evelyne Freja for Tiffany & Co. The bird itself, Jean Schlumberger's Bird on a Rock, launched in 1965, has a storied pedigree, which Christopher Young, Vice-President & Creative Director, Tiffany & Co. Patrimony and Global Creative Visual Merchandising, laid out in LVMH's program. "The most surprising, and the most elegant too, is without doubt the famous Bird on a Rock, a Tiffany design launched in 1965 and reinterpreted by Nathalie Verdeille, Senior Vice President, Chief Artistic Officer, more than sixty years later," he said. One of the first brooches went to Rachel "Bunny" Mellon, the philanthropist, horticulturalist and good friend of Jean Schlumberger; one of the first iterations paired yellow and white diamonds perched on lapis lazuli. "Today, at the Jewelry Design & Innovation Workshop, Bird on a Rock is reimagined into exquisite fine jewelry creations at the hands of Tiffany Master Artisans," Young said. Photo Credit: Evelyne Freja for Tiffany & Co. The Landmark at 727 Fifth Avenue offered what LVMH described as "a curated journey through the Maison's past and present, blending contemporary art, heritage, and extraordinary jewelry creations" across multiple floors. Tiffany opened the flagship in 1940. "This mythical bird has always known where to land on Fifth Avenue," Young said. Photo Credit: Evelyne Freja for Tiffany & Co. Tiffany wasn't LVMH's only New York stop: Sephora's Fifth Avenue store at 580 Fifth Avenue also took part, with multi-brand activations, beauty services and a concierge welcome. But the Tiffany Les Journées Particulières double bill was the real draw - pairing the flagship with the workshop let visitors trace a single icon from the artisan's bench to the vitrine. Asia fashion weekly news bulletin - ISSUE 86 week of 12 October 2026. 16/10/2026 Famed designer Kim Jones will open his brand's global debut flagship store at Central Yards in Hong Kong in H2 2027. Choosing Hong Kong over Paris or London, Jones highlighted the city's unique position as Asia's luxury hub, supported by a 16-month retail growth streak and recalibrated commercial rents. LVMH reported a 15% decline in demand among Chinese consumers and admitted that its trademark lawsuit against popular teahouse chain Molly Tea resulted in negative public fallout. The rare admission highlights the complexities luxury conglomerates face when navigating intellectual property disputes in the mainland market. Ella Yam and Jasmine Yen, daughters of Hong Kong icons Simon Yam and Donnie Yen respectively, are making high-profile marks internationally. Yam is expanding her presence across global fashion runways alongside her mother, while Yen is solidifying her music and commercial appeal through high-profile events in Paris. (4) Alice + Olivia Transforms Hong Kong's Tai Kwun Into "World of Stace" Fashion Fantasy Featuring K-Pop Star Jeon Somi and Local Collaborations Alice + Olivia transformed Hong Kong's Tai Kwun into the "WORLD OF STACE" for a major fashion party on October 9, hosted by founder Stacey Bendet. Joined by K-pop star Jeon Somi and local artists, the immersive event celebrated the brand's bold aesthetic through local collaborations and cinematic installations. (1) Kim Jones Chooses Hong Kong's Central Yards for Global Debut Store as International Brands Cement City's Premier Retail Gateway (Photo Credit: 林惠芳 / Tai Kung Pao) Renowned British fashion designer Kim Jones OBE will open the inaugural world flagship store for his namesake brand KIM JONES in Hong Kong. Slated to open in H2 2027 at Henderson Land's flagship Central Waterfront development, Central Yards, the 4,000-square-foot, two-story flagship marks a major vote of confidence in Hong Kong's position as Asia's luxury capital over competing fashion hubs such as Paris, London, and New York. The selection highlights Hong Kong's enduring "connect-in, reach-out" (內聯外通) advantage, serving as a vital bridge between mainland China and international luxury markets. Recent economic indicators reflect sustained retail momentum, with August total retail sales rising 5.6% year-on-year to HK$32.1 billion - marking 16 consecutive months of growth, led by a 10% surge in luxury goods and jewelry. Hong Kong also ranked second globally in luxury shopping city rankings, outperforming Paris and Seoul. Henderson Land Chairman Martin Lee noted that Central Yards Phase 1 - featuring 710,000 square feet of commercial space, a 100,000-square-foot Broadway-style theater, and high-profile retail - has achieved strong leasing performance, with office occupancy exceeding 70% ahead of its mid-2027 completion. Kim Jones' arrival adds to a wave of top-tier international expansions in Central, including Schiaparelli's first Asian permanent salon, Prada's enlarged flagship at Landmark, and newcomer brands capitalizing on recalibrated retail rents. (2) LVMH Reports 15% Drop in Chinese Consumer Demand and Acknowledges Negative Fallout from Trademark Lawsuit Against Teahouse Brand Molly Tea (Photo Credit: Sing Tao Headline) Luxury conglomerate LVMH has released its latest financial and market performance updates, revealing a 15% decline in demand from Chinese consumer segments amid broader macroeconomic adjustments. The luxury giant candidly addressed recent brand challenges, acknowledging that its high-profile trademark infringement lawsuit against popular Chinese teahouse chain Molly Tea (茉莉奶白) generated considerable negative public relations and consumer backlash in the mainland market. The legal dispute arose after LVMH subsidiaries contested the trendy beverage brand's visual identity and naming conventions, a move that sparked extensive social media debate across Chinese consumer platforms. Industry analysts noted that the public relations friction underscored the delicate balance luxury houses must maintain when managing intellectual property rights against burgeoning domestic lifestyle brands in the Greater China region. Despite the headwinds, LVMH executives emphasized ongoing adjustments to their regional retail strategy, focusing on experiential luxury and targeted client engagement to navigate shifting consumer preferences within the world's leading luxury market. (3) Second-Generation Stars Ella Yam and Jasmine Yen Make Waves in Global Fashion and Music Industries (Photo Credit: Dilraba Dilmurat / Weibo) Two prominent second-generation Hong Kong celebrities - Ella Yam, daughter of actor Simon Yam and supermodel Qiqi, and Jasmine Yen, daughter of martial arts icon Donnie Yen and Cissy Wang - are carving out high-profile careers on the international stage. Ella Yam has followed closely in her mother's footsteps, stepping into the fashion world with major runway appearances and brand endorsements. Her striking height, refined presence, and international appeal have made her a sought-after face for luxury fashion houses during recent international fashion weeks. Meanwhile, singer-songwriter Jasmine Yen has expanded her artistic footprint globally, securing lucrative engagements and high-profile performances in Paris. Balancing her burgeoning pop music career with luxury brand partnerships, Yen continues to demonstrate impressive commercial value and cross-cultural reach across Asian and European entertainment sectors. Their simultaneous rise reflects a broader trend of Hong Kong's young creative talent leveraging global heritage to build multifaceted careers spanning entertainment, music, and international luxury fashion. (4) Alice + Olivia Transforms Hong Kong's Tai Kwun Into "World of Stace" Fashion Fantasy Featuring K-Pop Star Jeon Somi and Local Collaborations (Photo Credit: Vogue Taiwan) Contemporary American fashion brand Alice + Olivia hosted a high-profile "WORLD OF STACE" fashion party on October 9, 2026, transforming Hong Kong's historic Tai Kwun heritage site and The Magistracy into an immersive, whimsical wonderland. Brand founder and Creative Director Stacey Bendet traveled to Hong Kong to personally host the celebration, blending the brand's iconic Stace Face, signature rose prints, and bold party culture into the colonial-era architecture. The star-studded event was highlighted by a surprise appearance from K-pop star and brand friend Jeon Somi, alongside prominent Hong Kong fashion figures including Grace Chan, Kayan9896, and Gigi Cheung. To ground the global brand in the local creative scene, Alice + Olivia collaborated with Hong Kong artists, including doll artist Ning Lau, who created a limited-edition Stace Face doll charm, and artist Natari Sadik, who live-painted custom denim pieces. Reflecting on the brand's core design philosophy, Stacey Bendet emphasized empowering women to feel confident, beautiful, and expressive through fashion. The multi-sensory evening also featured bespoke treats by Butter and Messina, music by DJ Christi McGarry, and a cinematic Glambot photo installation, underscoring Hong Kong's vibrant appeal as a premier hub for luxury brand experiences.
