Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a Master's Degree in Nursing and a nurse practitioner certification.
  • Have a minimum of two years of experience as a registered nurse in a health care setting.
  • Hold a current Ohio registered nurse license and Nurse Practitioner licensure in good standing.
Responsibilities
  • Conduct physical examinations and comprehensive medical and social histories for healthy individuals and individuals with acute illnesses and chronic disease, and make independent decisions regarding management and treatment of identified medical problems.
  • Order, perform, and interpret laboratory tests for screening and diagnosis.
  • Prescribe and order appropriate diets, medications, and other treatments such as physical therapy.
  • Perform therapeutic or corrective measures, including urgent care.
  • Refer individuals to appropriate specialist nurses, physicians, or other health care providers.
  • Provide information, instruction, and counseling on health maintenance, health promotion, social problems, illness prevention, illness management, and medication use.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of instruction and counseling, provide additional instruction and counseling as necessary, and initiate and maintain follow-up of noncompliant patients.
  • Serve as a preceptor for medical, nursing, nurse practitioner, or physician assistant students.
  • Consult with other health care providers about established clients admitted to hospitals, home care, rehabilitation, or nursing homes.
  • Correspond with insurers, employers, government agencies, and other health care providers about established clients as necessary.
  • Manage client care by developing treatment and follow-up plans, monitoring progress, determining when referrals are necessary, arranging further care, determining when hospital admission or emergency room visits are necessary, and determining when illness is resolved.
  • Assess social and economic factors for each client and tailor care to those factors.
  • Maintain familiarity with community resources and connect clients with appropriate resources.
  • Contract with clients regarding provider and client responsibilities.
  • Maintain an acceptable level of productivity to meet facility goals.
