Requirements
  • Some college plus at least 2 years of hotel accounting or auditing experience, including management experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred.
  • Fluent English communication is required.
  • Ability to carry or lift items weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to communicate with other people.
  • Mathematical skills, including basic math, budgeting, profit and loss concepts, percentages, and variances.
  • Problem-solving, reasoning, motivating, organizational, and training abilities.
  • Ability to devise, prepare, and maintain spreadsheets using various software systems.
  • Knowledge of computerized financial reporting systems and programs.
  • Availability to work nights, weekends, and/or holidays when required.
Responsibilities
  • Assist the Director of Area Finance, Director of Finance, and/or Assistant Director of Finance with preparing the budget, strategic plan, and goals program.
  • Perform or assist with month-end closing, including inputting and reconciling income, preparing reports, verifying the trial balance, and running financial statements for management review.
  • Manage daily accounting activities and assignments for accounting staff; plan and organize work, communicate goals, and schedule and assign work to maintain accounting standards.
  • Alert management to potentially serious issues.
  • Input general ledger entries and journal vouchers as required.
  • Ensure daily transactions are posted and updated promptly and in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Maintain control over hotel bookkeeping functions, including preparing and reviewing information posted to subsidiary ledgers.
  • Prepare tax reconciliations, payments, reports, investigations, records, and supporting documents; complete monthly, quarterly, and annual tax filings required by state, city, and federal agencies.
  • Perform or assist with balance sheet and bank reconciliations.
  • Participate in monthly inventory counts and verify inventory extensions.
  • Conduct monthly credit and other meetings and distribute minutes as needed.
  • Review and verify accounts payable input and output, accounts receivable posting and billing, and the daily income report.
  • Control accommodation advance deposits; prepare monthly invoices for other hotels, the General Manager, and retail outlets; monitor house banks and investments; and analyze or investigate cashiers' overages and shortages.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly reports according to reporting calendars and submit them on time.
  • Perform financial and statistical analysis and forecasting, and complete special projects as needed.
  • Promote teamwork and quality service through daily communication and coordination with Catering, Sales, Reservations, Accounting, and Front Office departments.
  • Audit payroll.
  • Supervise the Accounting department in the absence of the Assistant Director of Finance and Accounting.
  • Resolve guest billing disputes and answer guest questions and provide service to accounts.
  • Coordinate with regulatory agencies regarding governmental regulations, contractual agreements, and external audits.
  • Obtain and provide information to HMG Accounting staff and the Director of Regional Hotel Finance.
  • Ensure subordinate and other accounting clerical staff are properly trained and have the tools and equipment needed to perform their functions.
  • Reconcile gratuities for payroll, maintain contract logs, audit or approve vendor and agency payments, review Income Auditors' work, and fill in for the Director or Assistant Director of Hotel Finance as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
