Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • Successful completion of a Certified Nursing Assistant program or a Patient Care Technician certificate is required.
  • The employee must be able to stand for up to 12 hours, walk, sit, use hands, reach, stoop, kneel, talk, hear, smell, and lift or exert energy up to 35 pounds.
  • The employee must be able to read and interpret business or safety manuals, clinical or technical procedures, or regulations.
  • The employee must be able to write reports, correspondence, or manuals.
  • The employee must be able to present information and respond to questions from patients, families, employees, medical staff, and groups.
  • The employee must be able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • The employee must be able to multitask and prioritize responsibilities.
  • The employee must demonstrate the knowledge and skill necessary to meet the physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related needs of patients of all age groups.
  • The employee must understand and respond to patients, family members, and visitors from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Employment authorization is verified through the federal E-Verify program.
Responsibilities
  • Provide basic patient care under the direction of a licensed nurse.
  • Recognize, obtain, and report appropriate data to staff.
  • Provide basic hygiene, bathing, and feeding services.
  • Obtain vital signs.
  • Document findings and information appropriately.
  • Communicate appropriate information to staff as required.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to patient comfort and privacy.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient and unit-care data.
  • Access minimal-risk medications contained in kits, trays, or packs associated with certain procedures, as well as intravenous fluids stored in patient-care areas and automated dispensing units.
  • Follow the MUSC Standards of Behaviors.
  • Perform other assigned duties.
  • Practice financial stewardship of supplies and resources.
  • Use safe patient-handling equipment to transfer and lift patients greater than 35 pounds.
Desired Qualifications
  • Some experience is preferred but not required.
