Requirements

  • Must wear slip-resistant closed-toe shoes, a name tag, and hair secured in a hair net; dangling piercings, lip or eyebrow rings, and visible tattoos are not permitted.
  • Must participate in required in-service training sessions.
  • Must work scheduled operational shifts, including possible rotation, standby, or on-call assignments.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare meals for residents, family members, guests, and staff according to designated menus, optimizing nutrition and the dining experience.
  • Interact with residents to determine and improve satisfaction with the meal program.
  • Present food attractively on each plate.
  • Prepare meals according to the daily menu plan or Kitchen Manager direction.
  • Serve meals and beverages on time according to scheduled mealtimes.
  • Adjust or adapt recipes for specific dietary needs when possible.
  • Monitor and follow portion-control standards.
  • Maintain confidentiality of resident information.
  • Prepare meals in accordance with sanitary regulations and community policies and procedures.
  • Handle, label, and store food according to required protocols.
  • Document meal intakes and fluid intakes.
  • Communicate resident meal preferences and dislikes to the Kitchen Manager.
  • Help maintain low noise levels during mealtimes.
  • Wash, dry, and put away dishes.
  • Restock low or out-of-stock items.
  • Provide sick meals to residents in dining areas or bedrooms.
  • Clean the dining-room floor and tables after each meal.
  • Clean the kitchen before leaving the shift.
  • Stock resident refrigerators and storage bins daily.
  • Report refusals and zero meal-intake percentages to the Administrator.
  • Communicate staff or resident issues to the Kitchen Manager and Administrator.
  • Assist with compliance with state and local regulations.
  • Assist the Dietician and Kitchen Manager with developing menu items and recipes and ordering items as needed.
  • Interact appropriately with residents, family members, and guests.
  • Assist other departments with duties assigned by the Kitchen Manager or Administrator.
  • Maintain professional relationships with employees.
  • Maintain good hygiene and a professional appearance.
  • Contribute to resident satisfaction by meeting or exceeding customer expectations.
  • Communicate efficiently and appropriately with residents, family members, and guests.
  • Contribute to marketing efforts through appropriate interactions with prospective residents and guests.
  • Follow workplace safety and hygiene practices while working around heat, electrical-shock risks, cleaning chemicals, foodborne pathogens, blood, and body fluids.
