About the Job

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience or equivalent expertise troubleshooting, resolving, and maintaining information technology services.
  • Experience operating Cisco network security platforms in a large enterprise or service-provider environment.
  • Strong hands-on expertise with Cisco ASA, including multi-context, failover, clustering, network address translation, access control lists, AnyConnect or Secure Sockets Layer virtual private network, Internet Protocol Security, Dynamic Access Policies, and split tunneling.
  • Production experience with Cisco Firepower or Firepower Threat Defense managed through Firepower Management Center and/or Cisco Defense Orchestrator, including access control policy, Secure Sockets Layer policy, Intrusion Prevention System or Snort 3, file or malware policy, and identity policy.
  • Working knowledge of Firepower Chassis Manager and FXOS, including logical device provisioning, interface mapping, and software upgrades on 4100- and 9300-class hardware.
  • Operational experience with Cisco Identity Services Engine, including RADIUS or TACACS+, 802.1X, MAC Authentication Bypass, posture, profiling, guest access, certificate-based authentication, and Active Directory or Entra ID integration.
  • Experience using Cisco Security Manager and Cisco Defense Orchestrator for multi-device policy management, migration, and change orchestration.
  • Hands-on experience with ThousandEyes, including agent deployment, test design for HTTP, page-load, network, BGP, and end-user tests, alerting, and root-cause analysis.
  • Solid networking fundamentals, including routing with BGP and OSPF, switching, network address translation, quality of service, public key infrastructure, Domain Name System, and TCP/IP troubleshooting using packet capture and Wireshark.
  • Strong incident-management discipline and clear written and verbal communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work on-site five days per week and participate in an on-call rotation.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Level 2 and Level 3 support for remote-access virtual private network services, including SSL/IPsec, AnyConnect or Cisco Secure Client, site-to-site virtual private network, and perimeter firewall services.
  • Triage, diagnose, and resolve incidents across Cisco ASA, Firepower Threat Defense, Identity Services Engine, and supporting infrastructure within agreed service levels.
  • Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation for P1/P2 incidents affecting remote connectivity or perimeter security.
  • Lead major incident bridges, drive root-cause analysis, and deliver post-incident reviews with concrete preventative actions.
  • Plan, peer review, and implement standard and complex changes through Cisco Security Manager, Cisco Defense Orchestrator, Firepower Management Center, and related platforms, including policy, network address translation, access control list, virtual private network, Secure Sockets Layer decryption, Intrusion Prevention System tuning, and URL filtering changes.
  • Manage Identity Services Engine policy sets, authentication and authorization rules, posture, profiling, certificate services, and integrations with Active Directory, multifactor authentication, and pxGrid.
  • Maintain the Firepower software lifecycle on Firepower Chassis Manager-managed chassis, including FXOS upgrades, Firepower Threat Defense high-availability pairs, clustering, and logical device provisioning.
  • Operate and extend ThousandEyes coverage across Cloud, Enterprise, and Endpoint agents to monitor remote-access user experience, Internet service provider or software-as-a-service dependencies, and BGP or path health.
  • Build and tune dashboards, alerts, and synthetic tests; correlate ThousandEyes findings with firewall and virtual private network telemetry to shorten mean time to detect and mean time to restore.
  • Support audit, vulnerability-management, and certificate-lifecycle activities, including public key infrastructure and SAML/OIDC identity-provider integrations.
  • Reduce operational toil through scripting and API-driven automation using the Firepower Management Center or Firepower Threat Defense REST API, Identity Services Engine ERS/OpenAPI, Cisco Defense Orchestrator API, and ThousandEyes API, and use infrastructure-as-code and configuration-as-data practices where applicable, including Git, Ansible, and Python.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience migrating ASA to Firepower Threat Defense at scale, or migrating Firepower Management Center to cloud-delivered Firepower Management Center through Cisco Defense Orchestrator-managed environments.
  • Scripting experience in Python and familiarity with Ansible, Git, and continuous integration or continuous delivery pipelines for network changes.
  • Experience integrating telemetry into Splunk, ELK, Grafana, and security orchestration, automation, and response platforms.
