About the job

Requirements
  • Minimum of seven years of related work experience; four or more years in cloud or security engineering is preferred.
  • Strong hands-on engineering ability, including writing and shipping production-grade code in Python or an equivalent language, and substantial infrastructure-as-code work with CloudFormation; Terraform is a plus.
  • Hands-on expertise in at least one of AWS, GCP, or Azure, including organization-wide account structures, landing zones, and cross-account security patterns at scale; AWS is strongly preferred.
  • A track record of leading complex technical delivery, setting standards, mentoring engineers, and influencing technical direction across teams without direct authority.
  • Ability to reason about trust boundaries, least privilege, and blast radius, and to threat-model risks arising from overly broad access.
  • Experience working directly with engineering teams on policy-as-code, CI/CD integrations, code repositories and pipelines such as GitHub, and cloud security tooling.
  • Experience operating in regulated or audit-driven environments.
  • An undergraduate degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Responsibilities
  • Lead technical design reviews and own standards for building, testing, and shipping controls, raising code quality, systems thinking, and operational readiness.
  • Train, mentor, and coach engineers and new crew on technology standards, best practices, and frameworks; troubleshoot and resolve complex issues escalated from staff.
  • Influence engineering patterns, best practices, and technical direction across teams without direct authority.
  • Design enterprise-scale solutions, including policy pipelines, event-driven remediation, and API contracts, for auditability, fault tolerance, and graceful degradation when upstream systems change.
  • Evaluate and select tooling, frameworks, and integration patterns adopted by the broader team; own technical standards for connecting controls to enterprise infrastructure, including CI/CD, identity providers, logging and observability, and CMDB/ITSM.
  • Balance solution design with hands-on implementation and remain engaged with code.
  • Build preventive and detective controls as code; author, test, and stage-roll guardrails using CloudFormation and/or Terraform and Rego/OPA.
  • Embed controls into CI/CD pipelines and runtime configuration checks, and determine whether each control should break builds or detect and alert.
  • Automate posture checks, drift detection, and event-driven remediation, and identify efficiency gains through tooling and emerging technology, including AI/ML where appropriate.
  • Engineer preventive controls including SCPs, RCPs, permission boundaries, resource and identity policies, and pipeline/CI-CD guardrails; engineer detective controls including posture checks, drift detection, and event-driven remediation at organization scale.
  • Operationalize CSPM/CNAPP findings, such as Wiz findings, into enforceable automated controls.
  • Translate enterprise security strategy, audit requirements, and risk priorities into defined technical work, and measure control coverage and effectiveness.
  • Support privileged access controls and cloud account governance; contribute to audit responses, an on-call rotation, and special projects as needed.
Desired Qualifications
  • Four or more years of experience in cloud or security engineering.
  • Familiarity with AWS IAM policy mechanics, including inline and customer-managed policies, permission boundaries, SCPs, RCPs, and resource and identity policies; this expertise can be learned on the job.
  • A relevant certification, such as AWS Security Specialty or a Professional-level AWS certification; certification is not required.

$500K in VOO puts $40,400 into NVIDIA alone as top 10 holdings hit 37.78%

A $500,000 position in the Vanguard S&P 500 ETF (VOO) puts $40,400 into NVIDIA alone, as the chipmaker made up 8.08% of the fund on August 31, 2026. The fund's top 10 holdings account for 37.78%, or $188,900. The S&P 500 weights companies by market value, so NVIDIA's growth lifted its share automatically. Its stock rose 1,005.49% over five years to October 9, 2026, while VOO rose 90.68%. Concentration brings swings. A 2% weekly drop in NVIDIA on that slice costs about $808, roughly five years of VOO's $150 annual fee at 0.03%. Investors who also hold NVIDIA shares or a tech fund may face higher exposure than the fund's weight suggests.

Council for Economic Education launches National Investment Challenge with Vanguard's My Classroom Investor simulation

The Council for Economic Education has launched the National Investment Challenge, a new competition designed to teach high school students foundational investing skills. The challenge will use Vanguard's free My Classroom Investor simulation, where students manage mock 30-year portfolios and respond to market shifts and unexpected events. Early access opens in November, with the competition starting in January 2027. It will include qualifying rounds, state rounds, and culminate in a national final in Philadelphia in May, with teams competing for cash prizes. In the simulation, students choose characters with financial goals and manage portfolios containing stocks, bonds, and ETFs. The programme aligns with CEE Standards and the CFA Investment Foundations exam, helping students build credential-ready skills whilst learning long-term investment principles.

Vanguard to acquire AI-forward wealth platform Altruist to expand financial advice reach

Vanguard has entered a definitive agreement to acquire Altruist, an AI-forward wealth technology and custody platform serving financial advisors. The deal, expected to close later this year pending regulatory approvals, aims to expand access to financial advice by enabling advisors to serve more clients efficiently. Vanguard first invested in Altruist in 2020 to increase competition in the registered investment advisor custody space. Following the acquisition, Altruist will operate as a standalone business, retaining its leadership, brand, and operating model whilst gaining access to Vanguard's resources and investment expertise. The transaction terms were not disclosed. Altruist will continue focusing on providing integrated technology solutions for independent financial advisors, combining custody services with portfolio management tools.
