Requirements
  • An equivalent to a bachelor's degree in instructional design, education, educational technology, or a related field is required; additional experience may substitute for the required education on a year-by-year basis.
  • Six years of experience designing and developing interactive online educational courses are required.
  • Three years of experience supervising or managing employees are required.
  • Advanced technical proficiency with creating end-to-end accessible eLearnings using rapid eLearning authoring tools, including Articulate 360 Storyline and Rise, is required.
  • Technical proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft 365, and Google solutions is required.
  • Proficiency in project management, including planning and executing technical, relational, and operational project activities, is required.
  • Extensive understanding of software development models, adult learning theories, and universal design principles is required.
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards and mobile learning solutions, including use of an NVDA screen reader, is required.
  • Strong ability to produce and refine audiovisual assets, record and edit voiceovers, and integrate sound design is required.
  • Strong understanding of SCORM and Learning Management System functionalities is required.
  • Strong proficiency in strategic planning, data analysis, evaluation, and reporting is required.
  • Experience leveraging artificial intelligence tools within digital learning while maintaining critical thinking and independent decision-making is required.
  • Strong ability to lead a team through new and changing situations is required.
  • Candidate must reside in California and live within a commutable distance from SDSU at the time of hire.

Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and manage Learning Experience Design strategic plans and systems aligned with Academy business goals.
  • Establish and maintain reporting practices to support strategic business decisions and efficiency.
  • Partner with the Workforce Management and Development Team to ensure curriculum development standards reflect best practices for asynchronous learning product design.
  • Present and demonstrate learning and development research, solutions, and prototypes to Academy leaders and potential business partners.
  • Optimize and maintain a transparent, agile project management system for asynchronous learning products.
  • Manage the Learning Experience Design production queue, workload planning, team workflows, collaboration, and workload forecasts.
  • Facilitate production planning and operational meetings and communicate project progress, issues, risks, decisions, timelines, and forecasts.
  • Manage project coordination and relationships with Learning Experience Design service providers, including scopes of services and contract deliverables.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for escalated issues and manage relationships and feedback from staff, service providers, and partners.
  • Design, write, and revise accessible eLearnings, microlearnings, and other asynchronous learning products using adult learning theory and universal design principles.
  • Build self-paced learning products using Articulate Storyline, Rise, Adobe Creative Suite, and a software development model.
  • Interpret and refine behaviorally specific learning objectives for eLearning modules.
  • Develop storyboards, write and produce narration, and program eLearning modules.
  • Upload and test eLearning courses to the Academy learning management system.
  • Assess subject matter expert and curriculum developer content and implement culturally responsive exercises and case scenarios.
  • Create comprehensive eLearning storyboards containing scripts, onscreen content, learner interactions, animations, knowledge checks, and accessible elements.
  • Produce, record, edit, and caption voiceover narration and edit video for webinar-style learning modules.
  • Produce and edit audiovisual content and integrate sound design elements.
  • Publish and upload eLearning and microlearning SCORM files to the Academy learning management system.
  • Conduct quality assurance and accessibility testing, including NVDA screen-reader and keyboard-only navigation testing.
  • Conduct the two-phased internal review and quality-control process for courses designed by the Learning Experience Design team.
  • Integrate review feedback and prepare alpha versions of programmed courses for partner review and release.
  • Provide direct supervision to Learning Experience Design Team Supervisors.
  • Assist supervisors with hiring, developing, retaining, evaluating, and managing performance issues of employees.
  • Lead team health and collaboration by managing interpersonal dynamics, cross-functional relationships, and accountability.
  • Engage the Learning Experience Design team in team building and staff development related to asynchronous learning product design, accessibility, project and process management, quality assurance and quality improvement, and reporting.
  • Collaborate with division leadership on strategic planning and decision-making affecting organizational culture and business operations.
  • Cultivate relationships with Academy people leaders and provide operational updates and actionable guidance.
  • Participate on the Academy Shared Leadership Team in strategic planning, infrastructure assessments, and organizational decision-making.
  • Travel to off-site Academy and program meetings, primarily in Riverside and San Diego, and perform other duties as assigned.
