About the job

Requirements
  • Two to five years of experience in revenue operations, sales or business development operations, capture analysis, or an analytical consulting practice.
  • Experience administering and configuring a CRM as a system of record.
  • Ability to turn complex inputs into concise, actionable briefs for senior readers.
  • Advanced spreadsheet skills and experience with a dashboard or business intelligence tool.
  • U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
  • Strong judgment, ability to validate leadership narratives against pipeline data, and follow-through on assigned actions.
Responsibilities
  • Maintain the CRM as the system of record, keeping opportunities current on stage, value, close date, owner, and next step.
  • Run a regular hygiene cadence to identify stale deals, missing fields, duplicates, and slipped close dates.
  • Define stage criteria and exit requirements consistently and hold the team to them.
  • Build and maintain CRM workflows and integrations, including Slack alerts and after-action report links.
  • Report pipeline health, including coverage, conversion, velocity, and aging.
  • Build dashboard views for leadership and the board covering pipeline, forecast, capture status, and customer activity.
  • Produce weekly pipeline reviews, monthly growth summaries, and quarterly forecasts that include commit, upside, and gap to target.
  • Handle ad hoc data requests, investor data pulls, board preparation, and customer deep dives.
  • Present findings and recommendations, supporting them with the underlying data.
  • Publish regular market reports covering relevant market segments, budget lines and program elements, congressional marks and NDAA provisions, and changes within program offices and customers.
  • Analyze federal budget materials, including J-Books, R and P exhibits, and budgetary bills, and track how congressional marks become funding.
  • Monitor SAM.gov, OTA consortium calls, BAAs, and RFIs, and route relevant opportunities to the appropriate owner.
  • Maintain the competitive landscape, including competitor activity, partnerships, and implications for the company.
  • Conduct analysis supporting capture decisions, including addressable market sizing, funding-line mapping, and partner profiling.
  • Schedule customer, partner, and government engagements, including government calendars, base access, and travel.
  • Prepare engagement pre-briefs covering attendees, objectives, and outstanding follow-up from prior engagements.
  • Take meeting notes, prepare after-action reports in the standard format within one business day, and log engagements in the CRM.
  • Assign follow-up actions with owners and deadlines, and track them through completion.
Desired Qualifications
  • Exposure to defense or federal contracting, including SAM.gov, OTAs and consortia, and prime/sub relationships.
  • Military or government service.
  • SQL or Python experience.
  • Experience at an early-stage company building processes rather than inheriting them.
  • Direct maritime industry experience, especially market analysis involving maritime infrastructure, ports, dredging, USACE, NAVFAC, NAVSEA, DRPM Submarines, MSC, MARAD, SOCOM, DIU, PAE Shores, or PAE Maritime.
  • An active security clearance.

What believers are saying

  • June 2026 positioning matches federal momentum for autonomous systems and post-quantum infrastructure.
  • August 2026 hiring across engineering and operations shows active product expansion, not dormancy.
  • Mission-critical infrastructure for drones and ships creates sticky revenue and high switching costs.

What critics are saying

  • July 2026 postings show post-seed status, so execution depends on continued capital.
  • Austin, on-site hardware hiring signals manufacturing and facilities bottlenecks if demand outpaces buildout.
  • Defense-infrastructure dependence risks customer concentration and procurement delays from one program slip.

What makes First Order Effects unique

  • 2026 website: FOE builds sovereign-scale infrastructure for U.S. and allies.
  • August 2026 jobs: FOE ships deployable power, ports, and communications for autonomous systems.
  • Team recruits from SpaceX, Anduril, Saronic, Lockheed Skunk Works, and Forterra.
