Scottish Government to 'explore all options' to save Motherwell jobs.

Scottish Government to 'explore all options' to save Motherwell jobs. 21st October THE Scottish Government has vowed to "explore all options" to try to save more than 200 manufacturing jobs at risk in Motherwell. Economy Secretary Stephen Flynn has stepped into the row over the proposed closure of the neighbouring Resideo and Honeywell operations. Flynn said he is "deeply concerned" about the potential closures. A total of 207 jobs are at risk in the North Lanarkshire town, comprising approximately 116 at Resideo and a further 91 at Honeywell. Flynn said he has already spoken to Unite the Union and intends to write directly to both companies as the Scottish Government explores ways of protecting the jobs. (Image: NQ) He said: "I was deeply concerned to learn about the potential closure of Resideo and Honeywell sites in Motherwell. "My thoughts are with the employees affected, and the wider community in the area. "I spoke to Unite the Union and was clear that I will explore all options to retain the jobs at both companies. "I am also writing to both companies, and will work closely with the UK Government, which holds key economic levers, to explore how The National can mitigate the need for job losses in Scotland. "Our Partnership Action for Continuing Employment (PACE) initiative stands ready to provide skills and employability support if needed." The intervention follows calls from Unite for both the Scottish and UK governments to step in to protect the manufacturing jobs. Resideo has confirmed plans to move manufacturing operations from Newhouse to its existing factories in Brno in the Czech Republic and Nagykanizsa in Hungary. The company said the move followed a consultation process. A Resideo spokesperson said: "Every business has to continue to adapt to remain competitive. "Following a consultation process, The National is moving its manufacturing operations from Newhouse to two of its other factories in Europe - Brno, Czech Republic, and Nagykanizsa, Hungary. "Our continued focus is on supporting impacted colleagues, and starting the work needed to deliver the change." Honeywell has yet to respond to a request for comment from its sister title Motherwell & Wishaw Today.

Motherwell-based firms set to close with 200 jobs at risk.

Motherwell-based firms set to close with 200 jobs at risk. Honeywell produced more than 70 million face masks during the Covid pandemic (Image: Supplied) More than 200 jobs are at risk after two Motherwell-based firms announced plans to move their production from Scotland. Resideo told its workforce at the end of last week that it intends to transfer its production to Brno, Czech Republic, and Nagykanizsa, Hungary, on the basis that these facilities have lower operational costs. The company manufactures a range of products designed to help with the transition towards a lower-carbon economy, such as heating thermostats, air-conditioning thermostats, smart climate solutions, plumbing components for boilers and heat pumps, timers and heating controls. Approximately 116 jobs are at risk if the closure goes ahead. Meanwhile, on Tuesday morning, the adjacent Honeywell site announced to its workforce that it intends to close its doors with the loss of a further 91 jobs. The company is said to be proposing to primarily transfer work to Poole in England or abroad. READ MORE: Honeywell specialises in the design and manufacturing of electronic hardware and systems. It produced more than 70 million face masks during the Covid pandemic. Unite the Union has demanded the Scottish and UK governments explore all options to retain the jobs at both companies. The products made are closely connected to heating efficiency, climate control and heat-pump technology, "making the potential loss of this combined manufacturing capacity significant in the context of Scotland's just-transition ambitions", the union said. Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said: "Scotland can't continue to haemorrhage manufacturing jobs. It's simply unsustainable. "The decision by both Resideo and Honeywell to close the joint site, and to transfer the work out of Scotland is unforgivable. Government needs to intervene and ministers must protect jobs and communities. They need to act now." Unite industrial officer Sam Ritchie said: "It's vital that everything possible is done to retain these jobs. The Resideo and Honeywell workers are critical to the emerging green economy. They make high value products including the well-known Honeywell home thermostats. "Government must get its act together and work to keep this joint site open because it's central to delivering the just-transition agenda. Unite will fight tooth and nail to prevent these closures and we will be stepping up our actions to achieve this while supporting our members every step of the way." READ MORE: A spokesperson for Resideo said: "Every business has to continue to adapt to remain competitive. Following a consultation process, we are moving our manufacturing operations from Newhouse to two of our other factories in Europe - Brno, Czech Republic, and Nagykanizsa, Hungary. Our continued focus is on supporting impacted colleagues, and starting the work needed to deliver the change." A spokesperson for Honeywell said: "Following a comprehensive review of our operations we are proposing to transfer production activities from our Newhouse site in Motherwell to other Honeywell Technologies locations, including our Poole site in the United Kingdom. This proposal will enable us to improve operational efficiency, strengthen competitiveness and better align manufacturing capacity with future business requirements for our customers, and will be conducted in line with all necessary labour laws and local consultation requirements." Cabinet Secretary for Economy, Tourism and Transport, Stephen Flynn, said: "I was deeply concerned to learn about the potential closure of Resideo and Honeywell sites in Motherwell. My thoughts are with the employees affected and the wider community in the area. "I spoke with Unite the Union this afternoon and was clear that I will explore all options to retain the jobs at both companies. I am also writing to both companies and will work closely with the UK Government, which holds key economic levers, to explore how we can mitigate the need for job losses in Scotland. "Our Partnership Action for Continuing Employment initiative stands ready to provide skills and employability support if needed." A UK Government spokesperson said: "We know this will be a deeply concerning time for workers at Resideo and Honeywell, and their families following this commercial decision. "We are fully committed to supporting UK businesses - including by significantly reducing their energy bills, cutting costly red tape, and introducing tough action on late payments, so more firms can thrive and support their workers."

evohome named Heating Product of the Year at ASCP Awards 2026. Date: 22 September, 2026 The Honeywell Home evohome smart zoning thermostat has been awarded the Heating Product of the Year at the 2026 Association of Safety and Compliance Professionals (ASCP) Awards, recognising its contribution to supporting the evolving needs of the UK's social housing and retrofit sectors. The award highlights evohome's ability to provide targeted, room-by-room heating control, which can help housing providers reduce unnecessary energy consumption while maintaining temperature comfort. Commenting on the award, Mike Welsh, National Sales Leader - Specification, at Resideo, said: "It is fantastic that Honeywell Home evohome has been recognised by the ASCP Awards. As the market continues to look to optimise energy use, heating controls have an important role to play within this. "For social housing providers, the solution can help support retrofit objectives. And, for tenants, the evohome system means they can tailor heating patterns to make the most of the energy they use while also maintaining temperature comfort in the rooms they use most." New First Alert(R) smoke and carbon monoxide alarms make home safety simple.

New First Alert(R) smoke and carbon monoxide alarms make home safety simple. SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., Sept. 16, 2026 - Resideo Technologies (NYSE: REZI), a leading global provider of solutions for home comfort, safety and security, today announced a new lineup of First Alert(R) smoke, carbon monoxide (CO) and combo alarms. From America's No. 1 most trusted and reliable* fire safety brand, the new alarms simplify home safety with easy installation, hassle-free battery replacement and the introduction of SoftCue(TM) Replacement Reminders, gentle maintenance reminders designed to help reduce late-night "chirps" commonly associated with residential smoke alarms. "Resideo's new First Alert smoke alarms redefine how to address everyday maintenance needs, which can help ensure our critical life-safety alarms remain powered, active and ready to alert families to smoke and CO threats," said Ryan Park, Senior Product Director of Safety and Security at Resideo. "Too often, routine maintenance frustrations can lead homeowners to ignore or disable their alarms, and our simple but meaningful changes make home safety easier to manage while helping families maintain protection." The redesigned First Alert alarms comply with the Underwriter Laboratories' latest industry standards and offer features designed to simplify ongoing maintenance and operation, including: * SoftCue Replacement Reminders. Gentle reminders pre-warn three to five days before the alarm needs attention with a soft sound and clear LED indicator, providing homeowners early notice when a battery is low or an alarm is nearing the end of its life. * Easy-read indicators. Dedicated LED lights provide clear visual notifications that help homeowners quickly identify power status, a low battery, when the device needs to be replaced and whether a smoke or CO alarm has been triggered. * Simple installation. A standardized ceiling bracket simplifies installation and future replacements, while an optional Easy-Fit Mounting Plate helps avoid repainting ceiling marks. * Large, easy-access test/silence button. A centrally located Test/Silence button, nearly three times larger than previous models, provides convenient access for routine testing and temporary alarm silencing. * Side-load battery drawer. Designed for easier maintenance, battery-powered and hardwired with battery backup models allow homeowners to replace AA batteries from the side of the alarm. Advanced and Connected Detection The new smoke, CO and combo alarms combine advanced detection technology with compatibility across the First Alert portfolio to help create a more connected home safety system. Every alarm features Precision Detection(TM) advanced sensing technology, designed to provide earlier warning of fires in modern homes, where contemporary building materials and furnishings can burn hotter and spread faster. It helps reduce nuisance alarms from cooking smoke and steam, delivering more reliable detection and greater confidence in everyday use. Compatible hardwired models are designed for backward compatibility and interconnection with select legacy First Alert installations, enabling easier installation and replacement without additional adapters. The new lineup includes hardwired, battery-powered and 10-year sealed battery smoke, CO and combo alarm models starting at $29.99 (U.S. MSRP). Find a U.S. or Canadian retailer at FirstAlert.com. Fire Safety Events and Education Arriving just ahead of Fire Prevention Week, the new First Alert alarms are available now exclusively in the U.S. at Lowe's stores. Lowe's stores nationwide will host fire safety events on Saturday, Oct. 17, to educate families about the importance of whole-home safety and celebrate first responders. From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. local time, stores will welcome local first responders and emergency vehicles, giving families the opportunity to meet local heroes, explore fire trucks and equipment and learn how they help keep communities safe. As part of the Oct. 17 events, kids can also build their own firefighting plane during a special Lowe's Kids Workshop at Lowe's stores across the country, combining hands-on fun with safety education and community connection. Learn more at Lowes.com/KidsClub. The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) recommends smoke alarms in every bedroom, outside sleeping areas and on every level of the home, including the basement. Families are encouraged to take simple steps to strengthen home safety, from maintaining working smoke and CO alarms and keeping fire extinguishers on hand to creating and practicing a family exit plan.
