About the job

Requirements
  • At least 5 years of experience closing B2B business in sales, business development, strategic partnerships, staffing and recruiting, or professional services.
  • A track record against measurable targets such as quota, placement targets, or revenue goals.
  • Experience selling an offering that changes shape per account and may need to be defined during the buyer conversation.
  • Strong discovery skills to uncover and shape business and hiring needs rather than defaulting to a standard pitch.
  • Experience owning a full sales cycle or leading complex partnership conversations from initial contact through close.
  • Consistent pipeline tracking habits, ability to explain conversion rates by stage, and knowledge of where deals stall.
  • Ability to translate capabilities into business value for varied buyers.
  • High tolerance for ambiguity and a bias toward testing rather than waiting for a defined strategy.
  • Executive presence across engineering, product, operations, and talent leadership.
  • Commitment to expanding economic opportunity and to Pursuit's mission.
Responsibilities
  • Own warm executive introductions end to end, from the first conversation through a Builder starting work.
  • Run consultative discovery to understand companies' business priorities, team gaps, hiring constraints, and unarticulated needs.
  • Translate Pursuit talent capabilities into concrete roles, use cases, and business outcomes tailored to each employer, including when the opportunity is not immediately obvious.
  • Design the commercial structure for each opportunity, such as direct hire, multi-hire cohort, or paid apprenticeship, based on what is likely to close with the buyer.
  • Follow up consistently and creatively to move opportunities forward, navigate objections, and maintain momentum through long or ambiguous sales cycles.
  • Maintain disciplined pipeline tracking, outreach activity, next steps, and employer records across internal systems.
  • Share patterns and feedback from employer conversations with the team to improve messaging, targeting, and the placement motion.
  • Use AI tools to improve prospecting, account research, personalization, follow-up, workflow automation, and relationship management.
  • Build and run the funnel by defining stages and qualification criteria, keeping next steps dated, and maintaining a forecast for weekly review.
  • Report initially to the CEO and work alongside the training and program teams daily.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience selling talent, staffing, recruiting, services, or marketplaces.
  • Experience opening a new territory, launching a new sales motion, or building a market through personal outreach, discovery, and follow-through.
  • Experience closing business where the offer had to be developed during the sales conversation.
  • Ability to turn a vague employer need into a concrete hiring use case and explain how a specific skill set could create value.
  • Experience converting warm executive relationships and advising hiring managers to create roles that do not yet exist.
  • Experience working in a startup, high-growth company, or entrepreneurial environment where wearing multiple hats was normal.

About the company

Pursuit helps underrepresented adults access technology careers through two offerings: the Pursuit Fellowship, a one-year, intensive training program in New York City with no upfront costs, followed by three years of on-the-job support and career development; and Pursuit Commit, which helps employers hire, retain, and nurture engineers from non-traditional backgrounds with ongoing training. The Fellowship is funded by Pursuit and by partnerships with employers, and Pursuit is exploring financing options like municipal bonds to fund its programs as community investments. The model emphasizes long-term support and workforce diversification rather than upfront tuition. The goal is to expand access to high-paying tech roles and build sustainable career paths for underserved communities.
