Requirements
  • An associate degree in Surgical Technology or a higher degree from a regionally accredited institution is required.
  • A credential in surgical technology through a national certification program accredited by CAAHEP is required.
  • At least five years of experience within the past ten years in an operating room scrub role, as a surgical technology instructor, or a combination of both is required.
  • Proficiency in instructional methodology, curriculum design, and program planning is required.
  • A current BLS certification is required.
  • Strong working knowledge of current technologies appropriate to the area of instruction is required.
  • Faculty credentials must meet the standards outlined in ASOM 7.1 for the specific area of instruction.
Responsibilities
  • Facilitate student learning by delivering assigned classes in accordance with college policy and course objectives.
  • Use available technology to enhance instructional methods.
  • Work with students to remove barriers to retention and completion of the program.
  • Develop and maintain course outlines, syllabi, lesson plans, assignments, tests, and instructional materials.
  • Maintain accurate student records, grades, and other required documentation.
  • Engage with students through meaningful and productive activities that support student learning and implement active classroom teaching strategies.
  • Interact with students and co-workers professionally and cooperatively while complying with college policies and campus guidelines.
  • Implement emergency and safety procedures for classrooms, laboratories, and learning environments.
  • Provide academic-related coaching and academic monitoring to assigned student advisees in partnership with professional academic advising staff.
  • Monitor and document student performance throughout the semester, use academic advising alerts, provide interventions, communicate with students, coordinate tutoring and academic supports, and refer students to appropriate college resources.
  • Maintain posted office hours and student engagement hours according to campus expectations and the faculty loading policy in the Academic Support and Operations Manual.
  • Promote and assist in student recruitment, retention, and successful program completion through outreach by phone, technology tools, and other electronic means.
  • Conduct all responsibilities within the parameters of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, applicable regulatory requirements, and professional standards.
