Requirements
  • 2-3 years of skilled trade or engineering experience, including knowledge of roadway, structure, and bridge construction methods, materials, standards, and specifications.
  • Working knowledge of the contract and Programs needed to Drive the Project (MRP) within the first three months.
  • Working knowledge of state and federal safety, environmental, and EEO/DBE guidelines and regulations.
  • Working skill in operating computer equipment, software programs, and field inspection equipment.
  • Ability to provide technical supervision and leadership to other staff.
  • Ability to read and interpret roadway, bridge, and structure plans and contract specifications.
  • Ability to maintain detailed records.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with agency and contractor personnel and the general public.
  • Ability to obtain Advanced DOT certification, or MOT certification if working in Canada.
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment as needed.
  • A valid driver's license with a good driving record.
  • Ability to recognize hazards inherent in routine and non-routine tasks and adjust work methods to avoid loss, injury, or accident.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds and work over and around water, from heights, and in tight spaces.
Responsibilities
  • Manage day-to-day field operations to ensure contract standards are met in a cost-effective, safe, and efficient manner.
  • Ensure completion of condition assessments for pavements, signs, guardrails, bridges, vegetation, tunnels, and other contract requirements.
  • Determine whether to self-perform or subcontract work needed to bring assets into contract compliance, considering cost, timeliness, and efficiency.
  • Source and qualify new subcontractors.
  • Monitor operational, safety, and financial performance; conduct analyses; and prepare performance information and recommendations for periodic management reports.
  • Serve as a leader and technical advisor to work crews.
  • Lead daily safety briefings and inspect crew personal protective equipment, trucks, and equipment before operations.
  • Report to and work with the Project Superintendent to schedule work.
  • Inspect in-process and completed work for compliance with contract requirements.
  • Act as a communication link between the Project Superintendent and operations personnel.
  • Ensure direct reports actively engage in safe, productive operations according to schedule and coach them on productive operational techniques.
  • Assist the Project Superintendent with inspecting and controlling the fleet, including maintenance and fuel cards.
  • Manage, monitor, and control project assets and materials.
  • Complete work reporting, timesheets, budgeting, and other systems; prepare reports and correspondence; and ensure MMIS data is accurate.
  • Assist the Project Superintendent in developing work plan procedures.
  • Coordinate technical guidance on regulatory and code compliance for quality-control and inspection personnel within the area of expertise.
  • Review and approve material requisitions and purchase orders for materials and equipment when applicable.
  • Review subcontractor inspection programs and inspection reports when applicable.
  • Attend and conduct workplace inspections, toolbox talks, and hazard assessments.
  • Stop unsafe work practices and work with site staff to eliminate or mitigate hazards before work continues.
  • Coordinate safety committee meetings and activities, including schedules, agendas, minutes, and investigations.
  • Verify work, interpret the contract, and provide direction on schedules and subcontractor work.
  • Coordinate the development, implementation, and evaluation of a services plan with the Project Superintendent.
  • Maintain safe, efficient, and accurate work practices in office and field environments.
  • Perform occasional holiday, night, and weekend work for 24/7 operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
