- Graduate from an accredited school of nursing with a current Georgia license for Advanced Practice Nursing and a Master's degree in Acute Care Nursing, or graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant program with a current license for the Georgia State Composite Board.

- Understand legal issues influencing Advanced Practice Provider practice.
- Provide direct clinical services for critically ill adult patients within institutional guidelines and evidence-based clinical practice standards under physician supervision.
- Obtain patient health histories, perform physical examinations, and document findings.
- Order and interpret diagnostic and laboratory tests and explain procedures to patients, families, staff, and healthcare learners.
- Perform approved therapeutic and diagnostic procedures and document them.
- Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation, airway management, bag-and-mask ventilation, endotracheal intubation, ordering of life-supporting drugs under protocols, and defibrillation according to Advanced Cardiac Life Support standards.
- Insert and manage arterial, dialysis, central venous, and pulmonary artery catheters, chest tubes, thoracenteses, endotracheal tubes, and extraglottic devices under physician direction and hospital credentialing standards.
- Use monitoring and instrumentation equipment with patients and direct and educate others in its use.
- Formulate and implement acute illness treatment plans with attending physicians and document them in medical records and narrative summaries.
- Assess changes in patient status and institute interventions, including emergency stabilization interventions.
- Incorporate clinical research findings into standards of care.
- Support Institutional Review Board-approved clinical research and trials by obtaining consent, ordering tests, recording results, administering interventions, and documenting and reporting outcomes and adverse events.
- Participate in quality and performance improvement activities and clinical research.
- Serve as a clinical expert and education consultant to nursing staff, healthcare team members, patients' families, and the community.
- Assess educational needs and plan, provide, and evaluate educational programs for nursing staff, interdisciplinary healthcare teams, and the community.
- Perform daily rounds, new consults, admissions, discharges, advanced care planning, end-of-life-care discussions, and POLST discussions.
- Attend multidisciplinary rounds, hospital committees, the Critical Care Center of Excellence, journal club, grand rounds, and staff meetings.
- Formulate a differential diagnosis, assessment, and plan for each patient.
- Serve in the on-call pool for call-outs.
- Work with consultant groups, registered nurses, and care coordinators.
- Participate in education and onboarding of new hires and fellows.
- Check and respond to emails promptly when necessary.

Piedmont Columbus Regional Northside named a Blue Distinction Center for bariatric surgery. Published: August 19, 2026 Columbus, Ga. (August 20, 2026) - Piedmont Columbus Regional Northside is the only hospital in the Chattahoochee Valley area to be named a Blue Distinction Center by Blue Cross Blue Shield for its metabolic bariatric surgery program. "We are honored and excited to receive this recognition for our safe, effective treatment options," said bariatric surgeon Ken Copperwheat, D.O. "All employees with a State Health Benefit Plan, regardless of if they live in Auburn, Columbus, LaGrange, Phenix City or somewhere in between, can receive bariatric surgery as part of their benefits because of Piedmont achieving this distinction." The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates about 100 million adults, over 40%, in the United States are affected by obesity and that number continues to increase. Piedmont Columbus Regional Foundation to host 5th annual Teddy Bear Clinic for children. Published: August 16, 2026 Columbus, Ga. (August 17, 2026) - Piedmont Columbus Regional Foundation will host its fifth annual Teddy Bear Clinic on Saturday, Sept. 12, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Piedmont Columbus Regional Midtown Campus Conference Center. "Children and their stuffed animal will visit stations to learn about the Bill and Olivia Amos Children's Hospital to help take some of the fear out of a potential future hospital visit," said Piedmont Columbus Foundation Executive Director Jessie Brown. "Checkups will include X-rays, casting clinic, vaccinations and more." Families can also enjoy first aid and safety activities, tours of ambulances, police cars and firetrucks plus face painting and crafts. The event is free and open to the community. Five years later, Piedmont Macon expanding health care. Published: August 4, 2026 Macon, Ga. (August 5, 2026) - Five years after joining Piedmont Healthcare, Piedmont Macon Medical Center and Piedmont Macon North Hospital are celebrating a milestone that leaders say has transformed healthcare delivery across Middle Georgia through expanded access, major facility investments and enhanced patient care services. On Aug. 1, 2021, the former Coliseum Medical Centers and Coliseum Northside Hospital officially became part of Piedmont, beginning a new chapter for healthcare in the region. In the years since, the two Piedmont hospitals in Macon have evolved into a broader network of care that includes primary care practices, urgent care centers and occupational medicine services that are available to communities across Middle Georgia. "Our story over the last five years is about much more than a name change," said Stephen J. Daugherty, CEO of Piedmont Macon Medical and Piedmont Macon North. "It is a story of investing in our people, our patients and our communities while building a stronger healthcare system for the future." One of the most significant changes was the transition from a for-profit hospital system to a not-for-profit organization. Hospital leaders say that change has allowed resources to be reinvested directly into facilities, technology, workforce development and community health initiatives. The past five years also have brought major technological advancements. Piedmont Macon successfully transitioned to Epic - Piedmont Healthcare's electronic medical record platform - that connects patients to a statewide health system and enables more coordinated care across the organization. Additionally, Piedmont has created new access points for patients by expanding its primary care and urgent care services, while continuing to invest in advanced hospital-based care. As Piedmont reflects on five years of progress, Daugherty says the focus remains on patient-centered care, ensuring that they remain the focus of every decision while delivering high-quality care to meet the needs of Middle Georgia. Looking to the future, Daugherty said Piedmont Macon has plans to break ground on a new facility outside of Macon.
