Grafine hires former Neuberger Berman exec for strategic initiatives. Suzanne Flannery, managing director and head of strategic initiatives at Grafine Partners (Photo credit: Grafine Partners) Grafine Partners named Suzanne Flannery managing director and head of strategic initiatives, a newly created position. Flannery joins from Neuberger Berman, where she led a global team supporting the firm's investment offerings as managing director and head of the Product Marketing Platform. Before joining Neuberger Berman, she spent nine years at Goldman Sachs in senior roles across portfolio management, client solutions and hedge fund investing. Earlier in her career, she worked at J.P. Morgan and Monitor Group. Flannery now works with Grafine founder Elizabeth Weymouth, who launched the firm in 2019 after serving as a partner at Riverstone Holdings, where she built a business focused on identifying sector-specialist private equity firms and investing alongside them in high-alpha opportunities. Grafine has grown to approximately $1 billion in assets under management. Flannery's experience will strengthen Grafine's ability to scale and boost engagement, according to Weymouth. Flannery will also help further institutionalize the firm's investment, capital formation and operations functions while increasing its direct investment activity. The New York-based firm closed its Grafine Capital I fund with $600 million in total capital commitments in 2024, gathering capital from investors such as CAZ Investments, which committed $200 million to the firm in 2023. RedBird Capital was also an early backer.
Neuberger has raised approximately 70 billion yen ($460 million) for its first Japan-focused private equity fund. The NB Japan Private Equity Opportunities Fund attracted capital from institutional investors, family offices and private wealth investors. The fund will invest through commitments to Japanese private equity funds and direct co-investments. Neuberger has previously committed over 110 billion yen through commingled funds and custom accounts in Japan-focused investments, but this is its first dedicated Japan fund. The fundraising completed in under a year. Japan's private equity market has benefited from corporate governance reforms and demographic changes driving ownership transitions. The fund draws on Neuberger's private markets platform, which manages over $170 billion in investor commitments. Neuberger manages approximately $613 billion in total assets across multiple strategies.
