Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Science in Nursing or Master's degree in Nursing is required.
  • A California Registered Nurse license is required.
  • Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association is required.
  • WOCN certification by the Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nurses Certification Board is required for the assigned Wound Care Inpatient department.
  • Four years of clinical Registered Nurse experience in an acute care setting are required.
  • The role requires knowledge of evidence-based nursing practice, Joint Commission and state Department of Public Health accreditation standards, healthcare and regulatory standards, and the special needs of the patient population served.
  • The role requires the ability to communicate and teach effectively, delegate tasks, optimize team productivity, and organize and analyze work.
  • The role requires strong clinical skills in critical care nursing and written and verbal communication skills.
Responsibilities
  • Plan, organize, and direct essential patient care functions for the assigned unit.
  • Assist in developing, implementing, and integrating performance improvement plans into unit practice.
  • Ensure implementation and maintenance of departmental and hospital policies, procedures, and standards of care.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal laws and Joint Commission standards in areas of responsibility.
  • Assist with unit and department-specific education for clinical staff.
  • Ensure staff competency, ongoing skills assessment, and opportunities for growth.
  • Use nursing research and evidence-based nursing practice to support quality initiatives and nursing excellence.
  • Select, train, orient, develop, coach, evaluate, and counsel staff consistent with Human Resources management practices.
  • Create a work environment that promotes retention, productivity, diversity, employee safety, and equality.
  • Collaborate with leadership to plan, prepare, implement, monitor, and control the budget.
  • Report performance improvement results and address problems or issues accurately and promptly.
  • Organize and delegate work, establish completion time frames, and provide leadership to ensure effective results.
  • Participate in developing tactical plans for areas of responsibility.
  • Implement operational changes to satisfy local, state, and national regulatory requirements and maintain survey readiness.
  • Assist in writing, implementing, and updating policies.
  • Promote self-development and staff development.
  • Develop and maintain communication tools to keep staff informed of changes, developments, services, policies, and results.
  • Participate in Joint Commission and other local and state regulatory inspections.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and hospital policies and procedures.
  • Ensure staff consistently provides high-quality patient care and support services.
  • Maintain clinical competence and assist in managing patients when necessary.
  • Ensure high employee, patient, and physician satisfaction.
  • Collaborate, plan, and implement process improvement to maintain customer satisfaction.
  • Monitor daily assignment sheets and monthly schedules to ensure appropriate coverage.
  • Monitor the timekeeping system and minimize overtime and penalties.
  • Oversee and coordinate nursing education for the assigned area.
  • Coordinate orientation programs for new hires and transfers.
  • Develop and coordinate education plans associated with competency validation and specific patient populations.
  • Promote the development of bedside nurse leaders.
  • Apply adult learning principles in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating educational programs.
  • Coordinate and provide courses and classes that promote staff development and competence.
  • Use feedback from physicians, directors, nursing staff, and other disciplines to develop education plans.
  • Ensure educational programs align with Eisenhower Health's mission, vision, and goals.
  • Act as an educational consultant and facilitate programs that support excellence in patient care using the Relationship-Based Care Model.
  • Consult with staff to promote professional development and career pathways.
  • Facilitate nursing research by supporting the integration of research into nursing practice and communicating research findings into program plans.
  • Provide information, interpretation, and guidance to nurses regarding informatics.
  • Serve as a resource and liaison for documentation, implementation, design, and continuous maintenance of clinical informatics systems in collaboration with the informatics department.
  • Serve as the content expert for electronic applications in the assigned area.
  • Provide guidance in using clinical information systems.
  • Review clinical information systems for content updates related to nursing practice and regulatory requirements.
  • Teach informatics classes for orientation and implementation of new applications.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
