  • Ability to read shop drawings, reproduce manufacturing details, and lay out roofs and walls is required.
  • Knowledge of cutting, shaping, fitting, joining, and installing edge metal, insulation, ice and water shields, wood, and other construction materials is required.
  • Ability to calculate material stretch-outs, maximize materials, and maintain material inventory is required.
  • Ability to read and use a tape measure and mark or record distances is required.
  • Knowledge of installing roofing components including pipe boots, ridge and hip caps, rake, nail base, valley, eave lock, and ice and water shield is required.
  • Knowledge of installing counter flashing, coping, fascia, gutters, miters, downspouts, roof curbs, flat lock, and through-wall flashing is required.
  • Knowledge of installing crickets, chimney flashing, and curbs, as well as performing seaming and horizontal and vertical soldering, is required.
  • General knowledge of construction materials and tools used to assemble, install, or repair roofing structures is required.
  • Ability to complete timesheets, shop requisitions, and job reports is required.
  • Interpersonal and leadership skills, including the ability to work on a team and take corrective action when necessary, are required.
  • Ability to organize, plan, and execute work assignments is required.
  • Ability to identify problems and develop solutions in a timely manner is required.
  • Ability to use oral or written communication to convey information effectively is required.
  • Ability to meet with general contractors and customers is required.
  • Ability to use logic and reasoning to evaluate alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems is required.
  • Ability to perform the listed physical demands and work safely in hazardous, hot, cold, noisy, and elevated environments is required.
Responsibilities
  • Review the job file and shop drawings with the manager, including the scope of work, ordered materials, delivery schedule, labor budget, and job-site contacts.
  • Coordinate safety and equipment needs with the manager and ensure equipment is properly present and used on the job.
  • Supervise and support the crew daily regarding safety, quality, and labor production.
  • Monitor and maintain job-site cleanliness and daily housekeeping.
  • Count received materials and compare them with the purchase order.
  • Plan ahead and monitor daily material needs to prevent shortages.
  • Monitor and maintain on-site equipment, including kettle motors and cutters.
  • Notify the tool room or garage of broken or defective equipment before returning it.
  • Prepare and submit daily job reports, field progress problems, technical questions, and timesheets as directed by the manager.
  • Maintain overall quality control for each job, including checking water tightness, removing roof equipment, completing site cleanup, coordinating punch lists, and closing out jobs.
  • Review completed-job performance with the manager regarding safety, quality, and budget.
  • Attend coordination and planning meetings.
  • Install, repair, or replace single-ply roofing systems using waterproof sheet materials.
  • Cut felt, shingles, and flashing strips and fit them into angles formed by walls, vents, and intersecting roof surfaces.
  • Install vapor barriers and insulation layers on flat-roof decks and seal the seams.
  • Cover exposed nail heads with roofing cement or caulking to prevent water leakage and rust.
  • Install overlapping roofing materials over insulation surfaces using chalk lines, gauges, or shingle markings to determine overlap distances.
  • Cover roofs and exterior walls with slate, single-ply systems, asphalt, aluminum, wood, gravel, gypsum, and related materials using roofing tools.
  • Operate vehicles, mechanized devices, and equipment.
  • Repair cracks, defects, or damage using appropriate materials.
  • Apply adhesives, caulking, sealants, and coatings.
  • Inspect equipment, structures, and materials.
  • Train and coach other employees.
  • Evaluate information to determine compliance with standards.
  • Follow company safety policies and procedures.
