You lead, nurture, and grow your team members, ensuring they deliver top-notch features and provide ongoing support. Your ultimate goal? - Compensation Range: $145,152 - $167,731
Compensation ranges are determined by role and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the pay range for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
What You’ll Do
- Manage 1-3 teams consisting of 8-16 people total. Each team is normally comprised of
- 1 tech lead (team lead)
- 1 QA engineer and
- 2-6 software developers ranging from junior (Software Engineer 1) through to high senior (Principal Engineer).
- Understand, exhibit and promote the company’s core values.
- Organize a range of activities to help support a vibrant engineering culture within Pushpay, including team building, off-sites, and staff acknowledgements.
- Hire and retain great people.
- Monitor performance and professional development and coach the team.
- Ensure teams are adequately resourced for the work aligned with their team charter and business needs.
- Maintain strong communication between relevant product team members and your team.
- Foster strong communication between your teams and the (associate) product managers responsible for the teams charter.
- Collaborating with your direct reports to ensure that employee experience is considered in any work that is undertaken.
- Help translate business vision and strategy into a people and process strategy for areas managed and execute successfully on that strategy.
- Advocate for the tools, processes, and resources that teams and engineering need to enable their ongoing success.
- Contributor to wider engineering initiatives and strategy.
- Identify, mitigate, eliminate roadblocks and bottlenecks in process and practices.
- Participate in strategic management initiatives.
- Oversee design, delivery, and execution of work aligned with the needs of the business.
- Ensure team-owned features are well supported by their team for their lifetime.
- Collaborate with the Tech Leads, Delivery Manager, Directors, and Product Managers in establishing and maintaining a product vision and a plan to execute.
- Contribute to weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports for areas of responsibility and portfolios.
- Be involved in developing software and tooling (code, algorithms, designs, processes and practices) that is then incorporated into Pushpay products (both internal and external) which may constitute intellectual property that belongs to Pushpay.
- Work with Engineers, Quality Assistance, Product and other parts of the business to review requirements and proposed solutions, and to provide input into these processes (which may include ideation, algorithms, processes and feature design). This work may constitute intellectual property that belongs to Pushpay.
- Be involved in long term product and technology strategy (ideation, reviewing and refinement) which includes developing forward looking design and strategy which may constitute intellectual property that belongs to Pushpay.
What You’ll Bring
Experience
- 7+ years of relevant software engineering experience; “relevant” being: Developing Internet-scale multi-user web/mobile/cloud type software products (as an Engineer or Quality Assistant).
- 1+ years of relevant direct report management experience, “relevant” meaning
- Managing a team of engineers
- Working closely with those teams to deliver features.
- Applicable tertiary qualifications.
Skills
- Keep an eye on industry trends and technology and bring new ideas to the table.
- Raise issues early when they see obstacles preventing their teams achieving their goals (individual, team, product) and works to find solutions.
- When discussing work, engage in discussion around business impact and risk.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the wider business context across all of engineering.
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of the charters of the teams that roll up to them.
- Be a gate opener, not a gatekeeper.
- Demonstrate a strong empathy towards each of their direct reports.
- Encourage their direct reports to understand the ‘why’ behind the task.
- Delegate slightly more than feels comfortable, and delegate well.
- Zoom out - Has a broader overview of the system than any of the individual teams or team members - enough to see how every teams work fits into the larger picture.
- Take on accountability for output of the teams, even though responsibility is delegated to the tech lead or feature lead.
- Reduce time spent on low-return activities.
- Work in close collaboration with the Director of Engineering, as well as the other Engineering Managers within the same product areas.
- Practical commercial knowledge of, and high proficiency with
- AWS services
- Some variety of bug tracking system - e.g. Jira
- Continuous Integration / Continuous Deployment practices and tooling.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Self-manage your priorities, tasks, time and the expectations you have set.
- Generous with your time and knowledge, sharing and collaborating with others.
- Discuss work in both technical and business-impact terms.
