VREY is a Berlin PropTech company that helps landlords enable solar power for multi-family buildings. It handles planning, installing photovoltaic systems, and the operational setup, including a digital platform that automates legally compliant billing to tenants. As a metering point operator (wMSB), it also manages contracts with other energy providers, removing the supplier obligation from landlords and allowing tenants to buy solar energy directly (potentially lowering bills by up to 20%). Its goal is to scale communal solar use, support building decarbonization, and increase property value through tenant-accessible clean energy.

What believers are saying

  • Germany’s June 2026 Energy Sharing rules expand local-solar policy momentum beyond §42b.
  • VREY’s August 2026 hiring spree spans enterprise sales, operations, product, and finance roles.
  • The April 2026 funding extends runway for platform automation and new building deployments.

What critics are saying

  • §42b EnWG still demands 15-minute metering, contracts, and allocation logic, creating rollout friction.
  • VREY’s model depends on landlord adoption; slow conversion leaves enterprise hiring underutilized by 2027.
  • E.ON, Enpal, and local metering operators can bundle similar services faster, crushing differentiation.

What makes VREY unique

  • VREY combines PV installation, wMSB metering, and billing for §42b buildings.
  • The April 2026 €3.3 million seed round backs Rubio, HTGF, and kopa.
  • VREY reports over 200 residential buildings across all 16 German states.

VREY raises $3.7M to bring solar power to urban multi-family buildings

Berlin-based startup VREY has secured €3.3 million in seed financing to scale its solar power solutions for multi-family homes. The company specialises in bringing photovoltaic systems directly to urban residential buildings. VREY is already active in over 200 buildings, demonstrating early traction in the multi-family housing sector. The funding will support the company's expansion efforts as it works to increase solar power adoption in urban residential properties. The investment highlights growing interest in decentralised renewable energy solutions for apartment buildings, where traditional solar installations have historically been more challenging to implement compared to single-family homes.
