Requirements
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED and at least five years of progressive experience repairing gasoline- and alternatively fueled automobiles, trucks, and heavy equipment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must possess a valid North Carolina driver's license.
  • Must possess a North Carolina Inspection License or obtain certification as soon as possible if not already certified.
  • May be required to hold current EPA Type I, II, III, or Universal technician certification as required by 40 CFR Part 82, Subpart F.
  • Must complete safety training after hire.
  • Must be computer efficient and able to record work on a computer.
  • Must be able to follow task lists and read and comprehend repair manuals.
  • Must be able to perform physical work including lifting, moving objects, and manual labor for considerable periods.
Responsibilities
  • Perform basic vehicle services, including oil changes, tire replacement or rotation, brake replacement as needed, and other minor repairs.
  • Record all work on a computer and follow task lists to complete necessary services.
  • Clean the shop and work area, dispose of tires and garbage, and stock shelves and clean the parts room.
  • Maintain County automobiles, trucks, ambulances, and other vehicles in safe, good working order.
  • Diagnose vehicles brought in for service and perform general and deferred maintenance on assigned vehicles according to the scheduler.
  • Perform vehicle inspections as needed to meet North Carolina state licensing requirements.
  • Apply safety procedures when operating tools and working with machinery and moving mechanical parts.
  • Assume responsibility for the department in the absence of the Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Provide training and lead-worker support through motivation, direction, review, and feedback on assigned tasks.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • A North Carolina State Inspection License is a plus.
