About the job

Requirements
  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, with 8 or more years of experience in memory datapath, SRAM, or high-speed custom design.
  • Deep expertise in flop-to-flop and wave-pipelined timing closure, including setup and hold, skew, minimum and maximum delay, and PVT margin.
  • Experience in sense amplifier, dataline, or SRAM read/write design, including Monte Carlo or high-sigma verification.
  • Proven collaboration with layout on floorplanning, extraction, and post-layout timing correlation.
  • Daily hands-on use of AI, with concrete examples of AI-based workflows (prompts, scripts, or agents) that improved productivity or design outcomes.
Responsibilities
  • Define, design, and verify internal datapath blocks—including page buffer-to-IO data buses, wave pipelines, FIFOs, SER/DES front ends, and datapath clocking—to meet bandwidth, timing, and power targets.
  • Architect and close wave-pipelined and flop-to-flop paths, including setup/hold, skew/jitter budgets, PVT delay tracking, and delay trims across PVT and aging.
  • Design dataline sense amplifiers and precharge/latch sensing, covering offset, Monte Carlo/high-sigma margin, coupling, and IR drop.
  • Design column repair, fuse/repair storage, and redundancy muxing without bandwidth or timing penalties; verify all repair configurations with test, PE, and FW.
  • Use AI daily for RTL generation, scripting, and timing/waveform analysis; develop specifications and checklists that AI can process; and build agents to automate timing, Monte Carlo, and repair-coverage checks.
  • Lead the move from SPICE-only closure to a semi-custom flow with characterized custom cells, SDC/STA sign-off, STA-to-SPICE correlation, and synthesis/APR/ECO flows.
  • Drive floorplanning, bus routing, and RC-aware delay matching with layout, and correlate post-layout timing.
  • Champion AI adoption and standard processes, define interface specifications with multifunctional teams, support silicon debug, and mentor engineers.
Desired Qualifications
  • NAND/DRAM/SRAM periphery experience, including page buffer, column decoder, global data bus, or array-to-IO pipeline.
  • Memory repair and redundancy design, and understanding of its impact on yield, area, timing, and test time.
  • Timing-adjustment techniques such as delay trims, DLL/DCC, and training, as well as aging effects such as NBTI/HCI.
  • Building AI agents, LLM/RAG pipelines, or ML models for IC design, verification, or debug.
  • Sophisticated CMOS device physics, mismatch modeling (BSIM), and low-power techniques such as clock/power gating and leakage.
  • Solid understanding of STA and semi-custom flows mixing custom and standard-cell logic.

About the company

Micron Technology designs and manufactures memory and storage chips, mainly DRAM and NAND flash, used in data centers, PCs, phones, cars and industrial equipment. It is one of only three companies that make HBM, the stacked high-bandwidth memory placed beside processors in AI servers, and it is the largest memory chipmaker based in the United States. Unlike chip designers that outsource production, Micron runs its own fabs and assembly sites in the United States and across Asia. It earns money by selling chips, memory modules and solid-state drives to cloud providers, device makers and distributors. Micron was founded in 1978 and is headquartered in Boise, Idaho.

What believers are saying

  • Demand is surging: in September 2026, Micron reported fiscal 2026 revenue of $133.19 billion, up from $37.38 billion.
  • Boise is hiring: in August 2026, Micron planned about 3,500 direct jobs at two Idaho fabs opening from 2027.
  • Sales are locked in early: by October 2026, most of Micron's 2027 HBM supply was contracted at higher prices.

What critics are saying

  • Revenue is concentrated: about half of Micron's sales came from its top ten customers in each of three years.
  • Departing engineers face scrutiny: in September 2026, Micron sued rival YMTC for hiring away at least 20 engineers.
  • Boise is feeling the strain: an August 2026 report found the $50 billion Idaho buildout straining local infrastructure.

What makes Micron Technology unique

  • AI memory is a three-player club: only Micron, SK hynix and Samsung make HBM, the stacked memory inside AI servers.
  • It owns its factories: Micron makes chips in Taiwan, Singapore, Japan, the U.S., Malaysia, China and India.
  • Data centers drive the business: its two data center units made $34.28 billion of quarterly revenue reported September 2026.

Cramer dislikes that Micron mirrors SK Hynix, which posted record $62.8B quarterly profit

CNBC host Jim Cramer says Micron Technology trades in step with South Korea's SK Hynix, and he dislikes it. Answering a viewer on Mad Money, he said: "I'm hoping the linkage ends one day, but it hasn't yet." The pattern held on October 13, when SK Hynix closed 10.09% lower in Seoul and Micron's US shares sank about 5%. Wall Street had already declined that Monday, so the influence may run both ways. Both firms also sell high-bandwidth memory chips into the same AI-driven demand cycle. On October 28, SK Hynix reported record third-quarter operating profit of 83.33 trillion won ($62.8 billion), up 632% year on year. That beat the 76.96 trillion won consensus. SK Hynix's American depositary receipts debuted on Nasdaq in July, which could deepen the overlap.

Micron ties quarterly bonuses to profit from fiscal 2027 as $1T chipmaker posts $54.2B quarter

Micron Technology has unveiled a global employee bonus plan that ties quarterly payouts to company profits. From fiscal 2027, eligible staff will receive bonuses based on a formula that considers profit after tax and projected capital spending, split equally between cash and shares. The move follows months of pressure from Micron's Taiwan workforce for a bigger share of its AI-fuelled profits. The plan could help retain talent, but it adds a cost tied directly to profitability. Micron reported fiscal fourth-quarter revenue of $54.2 billion, up 379.1% year-on-year. Full-year revenue rose 256% to $133.2 billion. The shares have fallen 16.5% over the past month, though they are up 312.6% over the past year.

Micron gains as Bank of America keeps $1,550 target after executive meetings

Micron shares rose 2% after Bank of America analyst Vivek Arya met the company's executives and became "incrementally more positive on memory." He kept his Buy rating and $1,550 price target, 77% above Friday's close. SK hynix rose 3%. Customer deals for memory now run three to five years, rather than a year or less. Micron has signed 26 of them, covering over 35% of revenue through 2030, and it aims for about half. Arya estimates Micron could generate $150 billion to $200 billion of free cash flow a year in 2027 and 2028, versus $59.0 billion in fiscal 2026. Its buyback of up to $35.2 billion can start on December 9. Micron trades at 5.0x forward earnings, near levels seen before past revenue slumps.

Micron's operating margin hits 74.6% on $54.2B quarterly sales, but can the stock fall 30%?

Micron Technology's operating margin hit 74.6% over the twelve months ended September 3, 2026, up from 26.1% a year earlier. That is its highest in 40 fiscal quarter ends since fiscal Q1 2017, and it puts the stock's risk of a 30% fall in focus. Sales reached $54.2 billion in fiscal Q4 2026, up 379.3% year on year. Over the latest twelve months, Micron earned $99.3 billion of operating profit on $133 billion of sales. Management ties the margin to memory prices, which it expects to keep rising, but more slowly. It expects tight supply through 2028. Micron held $43.4 billion of cash and short-term investments against $5.18 billion of debt. Its shares have fallen 18.8% over the month to October 23, 2026. Fiscal Q1 2027 results are expected in December 2026.
