Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited university, or an equivalent combination of education and years of experience.
  • At least 7 years of experience in oil and gas or a related industry at the Senior Project Engineer level, or 10 years of senior project management experience in any industry.
  • Experience managing projects valued at $10 million or more.
  • Knowledge of proven project management practices and processes, including the project management knowledge areas in the PMBOK Guide.
  • Awareness of applicable industry codes and standards.
  • Working knowledge of controls, integration, instrumentation, electrical construction coordination, automation systems, and commissioning practices for industrial equipment or process facilities.
  • Experience coordinating engineering, procurement, construction, vendor, and field teams during installation, testing, and turnover of industrial equipment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Microsoft Project.
  • Strong team leadership, influencing, negotiation, planning, organizing, budgeting, forecasting, presentation, critical thinking, and strategic thinking skills.
  • Effective listening and oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to travel by car or airplane, work outdoors during the day or evening, and stand or sit during work hours.
Responsibilities
  • Lead the project core team and remain accountable for development and execution throughout the project lifecycle in accordance with Colonial's project management processes, procedures, and tools.
  • Guide the team in developing, monitoring, and controlling scope, schedule, cost, quality, and performance requirements.
  • Ensure the Project Charter is developed and approved, and lead creation of the project governance structure, core team roles, responsibilities, scope of work, execution plan, acceptance criteria, and supporting project plans.
  • Lead core team and project-related meetings, manage team member performance, and adjust roles or resources as needed.
  • Provide regular project status reporting on safety, scope changes, budget, schedule, and upcoming milestones.
  • Lead development of stage-gate and funding approval documents and obtain the appropriate approvals.
  • Maintain records supporting project decisions, approvals, changes, and other key project documentation.
  • Ensure Pre-Startup Safety Review and Management of Change processes are completed.
  • Coordinate integration of industrial control systems, automation platforms, instrumentation, electrical interfaces, and supervisory control and data acquisition-related components into project scope, schedule, cost, quality, and commissioning plans.
  • Oversee construction, fabrication, installation, testing, and turnover activities for complex industrial equipment, ensuring readiness for safe startup and long-term operational reliability.
  • Coordinate project closeout with accounting and other Colonial departments, and facilitate and capture lessons learned in the appropriate repository.
  • Support the Commercial team in representing Colonial with external partners.
  • Advise the Director of Central Projects on opportunities to improve project management processes, procedures, and tools.
  • Lead assigned project management initiatives and complete training and certifications required for the role.
  • Support Colonial's emergency response efforts when assigned, including training, short-term travel, or backfill duties.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Bachelor of Engineering degree from an accredited university.
  • Project Management Professional certification.
  • At least 10 years of experience in oil and gas or a related industry, or 5 years of project management experience in oil and gas or a related industry.
  • Experience presenting to Board-level executives.
  • Experience leading major, multidisciplinary pipeline or industrial projects spanning technical, construction, controls integration, automation, instrumentation, electrical, and supervisory control and data acquisition work.
